Server Version#: 1.21.3.4014 (Synology DSM package)
Player Version#: NA
I’m running PMP on a Synology DS4214j NAS and I use the media player from LG SmartTV (WebOS).
The subtitles are detected and displayed fine in the following cases:
Using Serviio Server
When the subtitle is embedded inside the video file
Although when using an external subtitle, it’s not detected or displayed by the player. I checked that PMP server is correctling detecting it.
In the log I found the following message: “selected subtitle cannot be converted to a compatible format, burning into video stream”. If the subtitle is burnt in the video stream, it should be detected by the player, like it’s done for Serviio Server. What am I missing?
Why use DLNA when a Plex app should be available for the LG TV?
I’ll give a try. The idea was to avoid installing a new app.
Your ARMv7 powered DS414j cannot transcode video and therefore cannot ‘burn-in’ the subtitles.
It’s a DS214Play (not j, my bad) NAS, which has transcoding features. On the compatibility list it shows compatibility for SD and some 720p transcoding.
Your NAS only has 512MB of RAM, which is NOT enough to run PMS and DSM properly, it is barely enough to run DSM.
It’s fine. With DSM and PMS running only 50% of the RAM is used. It’s a model with a x86 processor, the idea is to use it as a mini server.
Your external subtitles need to have the correct naming and permissions in order to be found and they must be in a suitable format for the playback device.
That is covered, I suppose the log would say otherwise.
At last, I tried on a SD video file but the results are the same, the subtitles aren’t streamed.
