Im using plex sync to sync my movies/tv shows on my iphone. Im traveling a lot. While travelling its a problem if i want to see my synced content on my macbook instead of phone. Can you make some solution to transfer synced content for from ios to mac with network or by cable direct connection from files app or finder… like it is on vlc app (there you can upload to phone, or download it back)
Are you aware that you can sync/download content to your Mac using the Plex app for Mac?
I have 512gb on my phone and 256gb on my travel mac (filled up with working files) so for me is better to download it on iphone to take more content with me for the long trips
but when you in a hotel is better to watch something on a bigger screen of pc rather small screen of an iphone.
Have you enable Sharing on your iPhone under Settings? Would you be able to stream (maybe even sync/download?) from your iPhone to your Mac using this? I haven’t tested it at a hotel so I not sure.
Yes i tested it at home, if the wifi is good then sharing is ok. But on the p2p network discovery not working (plex client just getting an error connect to iphone) no settings (cannot enter ip address or other things to help to connect by hands). Also in this case while sharing to pc via p2p wifi network you looses connectivity for internet/chat/email until you finished. So just need a mechanism to copy downloaded files by cable or by wifi p2p network. At 90% hotels wifi networks is so bad as getting about 1-2mbits even internal bandwidth with really poor signal because they usually install one cheap AP for the whole floor.
So basicaly its my files copied from my server. I just want to use one app for all, but with this configuration its a little bit complicated in case i just want FULL CONTROL for my files.
Unfortunately then, I don’t think Plex is quite the right solution for you and your situation. Maybe someone else has some other ideas, I don’t know…
A friend of mine brought his own mini-router with him when travelling… logged the devices in question to his “mobile WIFI” and flinged through that network.
I believe he used to bring one of the discontinued Apple Airport Express devices. I suppose a Netgear Orbi, Google WIFI or Eero could do the job. This network being completely offline could however cause some trouble (there’s e.g. a whole load of posts on how to establish a “mobile home theater” when on the road with a boat / RV / …).
As you know in ios 12/13 apppe added Files app.
And every program now can have folder that can be accessed via files.app(ios) and finder(mac)
So im only ask to modify plex app so it sync folder should be visible from there. Why other apps like vlc/games/reallyalotofapps can do it while plex not?
