There is. From that same page simply create a folder for the movie and in it place:
A Movie Library/
… The Movie (YEAR)/
…The Movie (YEAR).xxx
…A Trailer-trailer.xxx
…Some Behind the Scenes Stuff-behindthescenes.xxx
…An Interview-interview.xxx
…A Video Short-short.xxx
…Some Deleted Scenes-deleted.xxx
…Scene Shots-scene.xxx
That’s from memory, may be more, but that’s how I do mine. I’ve never used the Folder Method.
But what if you want to add something that doesn’t fit into:
Behind The Scenes
Deleted Scenes
Featurettes
Interviews
Scenes
Shorts
Trailers
it would be nice if there was just a generic “extras” option as well. An example i run into are films with multiple cuts. Also, this could help people who want all their extras in one sub folder
You do NOT want to put full movies in with your Extras.
Extras don’t come along with some fairly important features you would associate with Movies, like:
Resume from where you left off
Video Preview Thumbs (I think), if you use them (I do)
and the addition to Continue Watching among other things I can’t recall right now.
If you have different ‘versions’ of movies the best way to handle those would be with proper naming and there’s an important bit of info not included in the documentation as well.
Movie with Extras:
Place the Movie in the folder with the Extras first. Allow Plex to complete the match and index these items properly before continuing. Then, and only then add your second ‘version’ of the movie OUTSIDE the folder containing the Movie with the Extras. It can go in the main movie library not in a folder, or you can put it in another folder that is named appropriately.
Naming:
A Movie Library/
…The Movie (YEAR) [Version One]/
…The Movie (YEAR) [Version One].xxx
…The Extras-tags.xxx
etc…
Then, OUTSIDE this folder structure - either in the main movie folder or as shown:
A Movie Library/
…The Movie (YEAR) [Version Two]/
…The Movie (YEAR) [Version Two].xxx
I will put all my movies into unique folders when Hades freezes over, but you can do whatever you want. I just stick other versions out in the main movie library folder.
Which ever way you go, Plex will notice two movies with the same name ( all in [Brackets] is ignored by Plex) and will immediately ‘Merge’ them into one item with one Poster. You can select the Version you want at playback time, or, you can ‘Split’ them into two separate items and assign a unique poster to each one with an edited description if you want.
Failure to do the above (putting both movies into the same folder with the extras) will result in the extras disappearing at some point and you’ll be like: WTF, Man?!
Don’t be that guy. I was that guy. I found the cure. I’m no longer that guy. I don’t like that guy.
Why is Plex so ungodly bad at recognizing and supporting extras? I’ve tried virtually everything I can find on the net and still can’t get extras recognized. If I have to do the “PLEX dance” one more time I’m going to scream.
Just let me create a damned “Extras” folder, and trust that everything inside it is an extra associated with the film in the master folder.
What finally worked for me is making sure that the root folder the movie lives inside does not have the year in the folder name. Also, when using the organizing by folder method,** the extras must be in the root of the extra folder and not inside nested subfolders.**
No plex dance required, my movies updated themselves automatically in a couple minutes. Still cannot get extras to work for TV shows though…
This works:
X:\Storage\MovieName
X:\Storage\MovieName\Movie-2017.mkv
X:\Storage\MovieName\Behind The Scenes
X:\Storage\MovieName\Behind The Scenes\Extras1.mkv
X:\Storage\MovieName\Behind The Scenes\Extras2.mkv
This does NOT work:
X:\Storage\MovieName.2017
X:\Storage\MovieName.2017\Movie-2017.mkv
X:\Storage\MovieName.2017\Behind The Scenes
X:\Storage\MovieName.2017\Behind The Scenes\Extras1.mkv
X:\Storage\MovieName.2017\Behind The Scenes\Extras2.mkv
This does NOT work:
X:\Storage\MovieName
X:\Storage\MovieName\Movie-2017.mkv
X:\Storage\MovieName\Behind The Scenes
X:\Storage\MovieName\Behind The Scenes\Extras1
X:\Storage\MovieName\Behind The Scenes\Extras1\Extras1.mkv
X:\Storage\MovieName\Behind The Scenes\Extras2
X:\Storage\MovieName\Behind The Scenes\Extras2\Extras2.mkv

Inline:
A Movie Library/
…Movie Name (YEAR)/
…Movie Name (YEAR).xxx
…Descriptive Name1-behindthescenes.xxx <— case sensitive - do NOT capitalize the tag
…Descriptive Name2-interview.xxx <— case sensitive - do NOT capitalize the tag
In A Sub Folder:
A Movie Library/
…Movie Name (YEAR)/
…Movie Name (YEAR).xxx
…Behind The Scenes/
…Descriptive Name1.xxx
…Descriptive Name2.xxx
…Interviews/
…Descriptive Name1.xxx
…Descriptive Name2.xxx
Then Plex Dance® (just to make sure you’re doing it right):
bring names and structures into compliance/ or the ultimate bundle reboot operation
replace corrected show/movie into library
update library
All Steps. In Order. No Shortcuts.
Also noteworthy:
DO NOT put other versions into this movie folder.
If you have other versions remove them - place this folder with the extras first - then add your other versions outside this folder in the main movie library or in folders of their own - unless you want to have Disappearing Extras Syndrome - that WILL make you crazy. That’s what happened to me.
Since this topic already exists I’m replying here, but given the age I’m guessing it’s a dead subject lol
Plex doesn’t exist in a vacuum. While Kodi is my only reference here, I’m fairly certain other media players/managers support a generic Extras folder. This helps prevent scanning of videos that aren’t primaries (movies/tv) and organizing such material in an easy to manage way.
I like the idea of Plex, a central database with apps for many platforms, so I signed up. I’ve been using Kodi (XBMC) for over a decade, and have quite a large library. Though Kodi offers Extras only through a plug-in, it is a long-standing plug-in. Reading Plex’s requirements I wasn’t happy about having to rename hundreds of files, but I could live with that. I can’t live with breaking support for Extras in Kodi, which Plex’s folder structure requires.
There’s an easy solution: Plex keeps everything it does now, but just adds support for a sub folder named Extras. No current Plex databases would break, and those of us who rely on multiple media managers could maintain our builds minus the hyphenated filename requirement.
I still want this too… I’ve switched to using “Featurettes” from extras. EMBY and PLEX both recognize it. Kody is more flexible and I’ve read(have not tested) that you can use custom folder names. Why do I care if my folder structure works for all 3? Because I like to play with things and am constantly testing stuff. I also like the idea of having a generic folder I can fill with anything and have it be standard across my library. Could I put deleted scenes in a folder named Featurettes? Sure but that just sounds dumb =)
As the other guy said, bumping seems better.
Still fighting with plex but it seems my best choice. Coming from MCE and manual vlc.
Sure seems plex’s goal is to have one folder stuffed with all! Dumped my subs folder (must be tough on those with many subtitles). Now dump my extras/specials folder with all in movie root or many sub folders and name Deleted Scenes-deletedscenes.xxx… Still wonder about misc folders like Pics where my unused posters etc go. Plus plex seems to ignore local entirely (and scraps outdated plex server i/o tmdb), but will figger that out later.
This also appears to answer my q about db optimize, as called above The Plex Dance® since it is often easier to create a sandbox )with all this re-transcoding and subtitle burning was afraid I’d lose my originals and meta) and try, like nested collections plex claims each in its own movie folder but nested works. still have no clue if I am using tmdb name (Rambo Collection) why it will not scrap.
