caant u just use a genre ? and add movies based on genre? the function already exist on the actor page.. i tried to just copy it but my skills was to low.. always ended up with actors
You could but then you'd get exactly the same movies all the time. Say the movie you're looking at is an action genre, and you have 200 actions movies in your library. No way we can display 200 items at the bottom of the preplay, so lets say we only display the first 20, every time you look at an action movie preplay screen you'll always get the same 20 action movies from the start of the action genre list.
That's why I don't like the genre pivot on the "More" screen, it only show the first 50 movies of each genre, so if I have a genre that contains 200 movies I'm only ever going to see the first 50, over and over again :( Boring.......
ohhh now i seee... what about based on actors? i still think it would look more nice than either empty or the actors..
how does apple and netflix does it?
But then which actor? Don't know how apple/Netflix do it, maybe they employ someone to do it by hand :)
i dunno? the first one? :D
Re: the more button
It just seems that you gain very little by hiding the button - it does not seem to make a significant difference in terms of looks and does not allow you to display more info but lots of users will be unaware of the feature and so will miss out on a very cool feature.
Re: the genres and repeat movies: It does annoy me currently that it shows the same a-foo movies and would be much cooler if it pulled a random 50 (i thought that was the current value but maybe it could be reduced if they changed it to random) to display - any reason this could not be done in PMS/PlexConnect - surely python has a fake random function?

I bet it does, however you can't tell the PMS to generate an xml containing 50 random movies (as far as I know). I suppose you could load the entire xml in python, then randomly select 50 movies from it and generate a new PMS style xml to pass to the converter. Umm..... Interesting

IMDB show something like a top 100 / top 500 / top 5000 on the actor page - i am guessing this does not get scraped?

Yeah that is what i meant - although my preference would be for Elan to add the function to the PMS to make it available to all clients including their desktop client :)
Would be an awesome sulition, not just to plexconnect but to the other clients aswell…
Can any1 provide a working moviepreplay.xml ? Ive tried to copy past the one from some previous posts but that did not work, unfortunately its just telling me that trailers is not working on that one. Episodes for shows work great

Any way to detect the resolution of the tv for the image? I have an ATV3 that runs in 1080p then I have an ATV2 that runs in 720p the background images on the ATV2 look awkward, any advice?

The "image" element supports a "src720" and "src1080" attribute. You could try using those. Something like this...
I didn't actually try that line though, so I'm not sure if it might require quotes around the IMAGEURL things or not.
"quotes" preferred.
Browsing through iTunes movie store in aTV shows some of the movies to have coloured description and even rating image. But according to the xsd file from aTV the only possible style definitions are for changing title colour and metadata colour.
Has anyone tried changing the colour of description text and rating image with success?
