I think it would be excellent to be able mark content as a “favorite”. There could be an additional tab labeled “Favorites” for easy access to your favorite content.
Additionally, I think it would be great to be able to share these favorites among the people the library is being shared with through visual representation. I’ve made some mockups of what I was thinking.
Favorite marked by multiple users
When a favorite is marked, a banner would appear to represent the favorite while browsing the library. Multiple favorites from multiple users would result in subsequent banners (as shown above). Each user could choose a color, or have the color of the banner dynamic to the color of their profile image.
The It would be interesting to see what your friends would favorite and make an new way to explore your content.
Yes!! Having favorites that could be seen by multiple users would be awesome. Or even something like a “Recommended” where you can share content you recommend.
Adding the ability to Favorite titles would be awesome, and then exposing this as a variable that Tautulli can access would make it even better.
That way, my family can all Favorite their favorite TV shows and have Tautulli email them when something they are interested in is added to the library.
An important reason for having Favorites is that users get lost with all the new episodes coming in. There’s no way to notice that, for example, a missing season, or several episodes from a few years back, has come in, when there’s a lot of activity going on with new stuff flooding in.
Users tend to be watching a fairly limited number of shows at any one time, or are interested in only a few shows. Being able to mark those as favorites, then being able to display their favorite shows as a separate screen, helps them see if anything new (or old) has come in.
It’s frustrating as the plex server admin guy, to spend an evening finding missing episodes for shows, knowing that it’s very unlikely that my users are going to notice that they’ve appeared. (Yes, I have sonarr etc. set up correctly, but there are dozens of times each year where I find missing episodes manually that sonarr didn’t. Please don’t tell me I’m not using sonarr correctly. that’s not the point of this.)
