Feature Idea - Limit times users can use plex // mod: access schedule

Hey

First off, love Plex. Love it so much I bought a server just for it to go on and currently have around 2,000 movies and TV shows running on it. Also have Plex Pass

I'd love to see a feature to be able to restrict access to Plex at certain time.

My kids both have Now TV boxes, installed with Plex. I'd like to be able to stop Plex working after say 8PM on school nights, and 10PM on weekends for example.

I have tried this with my router, but as they are not accessing the internet, my restrictions still allow Plex to work!

TIA

Danny

I would love this. Though, Plex Home would have to be integrated into the iPad app first.

My Router I can block services/ports for IP ranges on a schedule. Does your router have any sort of "Block Services" setting?

This would not affect internal network streaming.  Also, this would be an all or nothing approach (which, admittedly, would fill the OPs request, but minimally).

Edit: On second thought, I suppose it may be possible to limit internal IPs too. My router does not support this, but it's interesting.

I'll support nearly any suggestions that give the Server more control over the Clients. Clients having too much control over the Server is about the only thing that I absolutely hate about Plex. As an IT professional, that just strikes me as being all wrong. lol

i agree this would be a good feature added to the user account.. side note, if your using a box with a full os there may be a way of limiting this locally.. I know on windows machines active directory can lock and unlock machines at give times.. Event shut down and start up.. If its a set top device its a little harder.

I would love this feature. Each of my kids has a separate user, so it would be easy to limit this by user. It would not matter which device the child is on. They would have access only during certain times and not have access at other times.

I would definitely like this feature. Our kids have their iDevices and although they have a “Kids” account, would like to do the same and not allow access after a certain time per day.
My only saving grace at the moment is having PlexPy running which sends me a notification if something is being watched.

Great idea!

Ditto. This would be a great and valuable feature. I don’t know how many times I’ve found my kids watching too late at night on their devices and wished I could limit access to each user by hour of day and day of week. Please consider implementing this feature.

Customized hour access per day of week and per user account on the plex server.

i 2nd the idea, need to be able to get a smoother bedtime.

This is GREATLY needed. Day of the week or time based restrictions should be in.

Yes please to this feature +1

so need this to be added to Plex, just what I need to stop my daughter from watching her favourite show on her TV after her bed time, wouldn’t be that bad but she know i can monitor what she is watching and when.

It would be nice, i have written my opinion in the topic forums.plex.tv/discussion/263339/feature-request-parental-control/p1?new=1

+1 for this feature

+1 for this , limiting kids access to devices / tv is an essential component of most households

I’d like to be able to suspend Plex playback when something on my Plex DVR is recording, since my server (an Nvidia SHIELD) can’t handle recording and playback at the same time, and will crash when someone attempts to do so, resulting in none of the rest of the day’s recordings saving. When this happens, the only way to fix it is to restart the SHIELD. The limited access feature would help prevent that (although I also plan on buying a smart plug for my SHIELD, so I can reset it remotely if necessary).

This should be opened as a new thread. It won’t get any attention or votes while it is appended to another thread.

This does have its own thread, but it’s over in the Live TV/DVR section. I might wanna have a mod move it here (hint hint)
