A feature to enable limits on the number of plays per user or max time per day per user.
I think this would be a great feature. Also, cut down if someone keeps a movie paused for hours. Maybe create a temporary revoke without having to reinvite the user.
If anyone has any thoughts or know of a current capability that is able to accomplish this, that would be great.
I would expect only minimal bandwidth usage during pauses (i.e. periodic checks with remote client for status), but it is an open external connection when there could easily not be one. I've seen some reported through PlexWatch of >480 min.
Or what about a time limit. I would love to see a time limit of specific time of day (example 7PM to 7AM) everyday specific users (i.e.: my kids) can no longer watch anything until the time is up.

My server does it's MCEBuddy conversions from 2300 to 0700 each day. I just go in and disconnect the remote mapping at 2300. That doesn't help with local LAN connections though...
I agree it should be a parental control. I'm looking to have an account only work between curtain hours (ie for the Kids account)? And or can only be used for so long in a 24hr period (so kids can binge watch cartoons all day)?
This could definitely be useful for parental controls but it would also be nice to have Plex notify you when you've watched for x hours or watched x episodes... could help cut down on the binge watching. ;)
I think this has valid components for both parental controls and shared user controls for that family member that *always streams* and eats my cpu. It's got my vote!
This Feature Request has a lot of merit. We have some similar ones already on the forum already, but I like the way this one emphasizes quotas for time or access time ranges.
The one thing that would make this work better, IMO is a revamping of the user section of the Web App. The individual icons for users may seem like a good idea, when the user list is small, but as people start adding more and more users to their systems, it starts to get un-wieldy.
A list view for each user, showing a friendly name, the Plex.tv name and last accessed date/time, click on the name and get the specifics of when, what, etc. Time limits, shared libraries and streaming quotas set on this second "info/config" screen for each user. Have a way to export this information out to a second server, including watched status, and migrating or maintaining multiple servers now gets that much easier.
This all seems to hinge on a redo of the user manager interface, though, IMO.
Anything that gives the administrator more control over his content gets my vote!
According to Elan, we don’t have remote Stream limits yet… And someone someplace made a mistake leaving it in for this latest build.
But, obviously, it’s coming, if they left this by mistake… It’s just a matter of time. If you look at the suggestions @cayars made in my “Um” thread you can see it’s going to have some potential issues as to how functional these limits really are.
We need to have individual user limits and an over-all server side limit to have a more complete package.
@MikeG6.5 I’m glad to see we did get our over-all server side limit enabled in the latest preview release.
This request I do believe is still needed.
Side note: I’m going to run a search of the forum on concurrent plays from one user account. I don’t want to muddle up this request or make a duplicate if limiting concurrent plays from one account is out there. Example: Buddy goes to his gf’s house and signs into her ps4. He goes home and watches something and he is still logged into her ps4 as well and watches something. It adds up fast when people “share” accounts. I would rather he be able to stay signed into both but only one can watch at a time. “Your account is already actively using this server.”
I am waiting this feature too. It would be even more useful if we can limit which library a user can access during different days. For example, kids accounts can only access educational libraries for 1 hour per day from Monday to Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, they can access educational libraries and cartoons for 3 hours per day.
Right now, I am tired of telling off my kids to stop watching TV.
I guess this needs more likes to make the list…
I would really like to limit how many hours user X can watch.
i.e. Bob watches 12 hours of streams a day and I want to limit Bob to max of 4 hours per 24 hour period of streaming.
Or another way to implement would be 5 TV episodes (watched to 85%) or 2 movies.
85% watched so Bob watching 2 minutes of an episode and then backing out because he has seen it before does not count towards his limit.
