Specifically, as it refers to: Sub-folders that include the words extras , samples , bonus , or bonus disc
This needs to be expanded to also include: extrafanart, extrathumbs, metadata
These are common folders created by many 3rd-party media management software such as Media Center Master, Media Companion, etc. Using .ignore files doesn’t really help, because these folders are still being processed and read as well as those files being looked at for allowed/ignored content. This adds an exponential level of wasted time when these common folders exist for each an every media folder (TV and movies) in a collection.
I already do that. And as I believe I said in the OP, it still doesn’t stop Plex from looking at those folders as well as wasting time processing the .ignore file.
The folders need to be ignore completely, as its an utter waste of time for these very common folders. .ignore is not an adequate solution, as the folder are still being looked at.
These folder should be ignored completely, just like an Extra folder.
I’ve been experimenting more with this, and a more conducive placement is:
/Media
/Movies
.plexignore
/A Movie
/extrafanart
Placing it under the top-level movie, television, etc, folder works and affects all individual folder underneath it. You don’t have to make individual copies per-title, and the end effect is less processing of exclusions.
Thanks for the brainstorm! I still think these exclusions should be built-in
