Lo,
This is a no brainer really (and has likely come up before, although a search of the Plex Pass-only forum came up empty).
Many users choose to use popular Linux distributions such as those which are Ubuntu-based and Fedora-based. I myself have three PC’s (it was 5 until 2 were swapped out for NVIDIA Shield boxes) and 2 laptops in this house running Ubuntu MATE 16.04 rather than Windows. But there are no PMP downloads for Linux pre-compiled available for download from plex.tv.
There is (at time of writing)…
- An old PPA meant for Ubuntu 14.04 which has an old PMP version precompiled
- A version of PMP in the Arch repo’s if your lucky enough to use a distribution that is Arch based
- Someone has made an AppImage version of PMP but I’ve never been able to get it to run properly
- Also you can compile it from the github repository, which does work but takes forever to compile (especially if you’ve got multiple PC’s)
So could we please (this is the only thing I ask as a Plex Pass member!) get some officially supplied pre-compiled builds of PMP?
Even IF! …
- They’re just some crummy .tar.gz archive without a package or icon
- They’re only for the Plex Pass members download area
- They’re marked as beta/alpha
It’d be better than nothing.
Yes I’m aware I can access Plex through other unofficial ways (or through Kodi) - but frankly I want to use the purpose made PMP on my Linux desktop!
Thanks
Steven
