Server Version#: Plex Server for Windows v1.32.5.7516
Player Version#: Plexamp for Android v4.83
My library has expanded from just mp3 files a few years ago, to include many new files in FLAC (16 bit and 24 bit). In many cases, I have the same album in 2 or even all 3 formats (counting 16 bit and 24 bit as separate formats). Obviously, each varies in quality and filesize.
Now, depending on the environment where I am listening, I prefer different file formats. When streaming to my phone and listening on earbuds at the gym, mp3 is more than adequate. At other times, I am connected to my wi-fi and have better equipment to play my music, so I’d like to stream higher quality FLAC 16bit files. Then, when I’ve got my HD gear going, I would like to stream the 24bit files.
In my mind, the file format properties would be scanned whenever files are added to the Plex library to identify the file format property (mp3, FLAC-16 or FLAC-24). Ideally, this scan could be invoked on files already in the library as well. Then, the player filter capabilities would support selecting 1 or more of these types. If it’s not possible to capture these properties in the scanning process, I’d be willing to add Tags to my music files that would correspond to one of these 3 categories and then be filterable.
Hope this makes sense and that you consider adding this feature to my favorite audio player, Plexamp!
