I’m aware this has been requested before, but I’m here pitching this idea again.
The suggested solution was to use Playlists and although it kinda “solves the issue”. But I really love the idea of having a few selected items to watch later listed on my dashboard. Right next to “Recently Added” and “Recommended”. Instead of just random videos picked from the Internet.
I would love this too. For me, this is what my watch later would be mostly used for. Watch later in its current form is not something I really use but being able to add movie or TV shows to this queue would be far better than a playlist.
I was very disappointed to find the ‘Watch Later’ and ‘Recommend’ features did not work for library items. I do not use Plex to view media outside of my library. I want to be able to tag movies I have for later viewing, and send recommendations to other users on my server.
Same here.
I have a playlist called watch later. But I still can’t recommend items from that list.
And it still bugs me to have a menu items that’s called watch later that is not really a watch later item for me.
Plex just needs to call Watch Later something else and fix most of what’s left.
When I want to ‘flag’ something in my library I use the ever popular and extremely useful RARflix for Roku feature: ‘Put On Deck’. This performs the amazing task of ‘instantly watching’ one minute of anything you ‘Put On Deck’ and it miraculously appears in, of all places, On Deck.
Yes, On Deck has been raped and pillaged by Plex and now only contains TV Shows and Continue Watching - the only avenue for Movies in any front end - is useless to the point of madness because it contains both TV Shows and Movies making it redundant for TV Shows and Useless for Movies if you have more than 3 TV Shows in progress in Continue Watching.
This is one of the reasons I use RARflix for Roku. It has the pre-pillaged version of On Deck where everything works as one would expect it to.
Watch Later should be called: My You Tube List. That would clear up a lot of confusion. Watch Later goes outside the Plexiverse and I doubt it will ever be used for inside work.
I keep assuming I just can’t find where the Plex team must have hidden a ‘Watch Later’ or ‘My List’ feature that would allow me to put movies and shows—from my own library—in a list to go through later! I’ve been with Plex for years and years and every 3 to 6 months I find myself searching this same topic again and again to see if it has been implemented.
‘Watch Later’ isn’t what you’d think it is. How did a queue for internet videos get on Plex’s top priority list of things to implement anyway?? I’ve never used this feature and I don’t know anyone who has. The ‘Queue’ feature also isn’t what you’d use. It’s a music feature trying to act like a movies/shows feature but sucks at it. I don’t know anyone who’s used it for movies or shows. Then we have ‘Playlists’. They work for music but they don’t work right for movies you’ve been wanting to watch just once.
A feature like ‘Playlists’ that automatically removed a movie after watching it (or better yet had a toggle to decide whether a certain Playlist should auto-remove after watching or not) would work for me. Then I would create playlists like ‘Classic Comedies’ or ‘Christmas Favorites’ that wouldn’t remove movies. And also create a playlist for ‘Must See Movies’ that would remove a movie from its list after it’s watched.
Has anyone figured out a way to do this in Plex?
Plex peeps, please develop this already!
PS
Yes, this bothers me that I can’t have a watch list but I do love Plex and I convert people to it all the time
One of the reasons I still use the RARflix Plex app for Roku is:
An On Deck that still makes sense in that everything in progress is considered On Deck. There’s even a function, pure genius in it’s design, that reads: ‘Put On Deck’ when viewing a drop-down of playback options for a library item - any item. There is no special ‘Elite’ status given to TV Shows so that they only have privileged access to an over-designed, to the point of uselessness, an On Deck that had worked perfectly for years until Plex decided to ‘fix’ what wasn’t broken.
To add insult to injury, and offer a slap in the mouth for Movie lovers, not only was On Deck destroyed, Continue Watching now tries to step in and act like On Deck should, but wait… Continue Watching contains everything On Deck should - Movies AND TV Shows in progress. Right below Continue Watching is On Deck that now contains that very same TV Show that’s also in Continue Watching and taking up one of the 3 precious slots that a Movie could be using.
When a TV Show is left in progress - as will happen often when ‘Life’ shows up to interrupt your entertainment - that TV Show is moved to the front of the On Deck list - and jumps to Continue Watching to give you a redundant, double vision reminder that something just isn’t right here.
Yes, dear friends, it makes no sense.
The entire point of this thread could be easily handled if Plex would ever admit that brand new wheel they re-invented (the square one) in their ‘re-vamping’ of On Deck could be exactly what everyone posting here wants - an On Deck that makes sense! Want to see something? Put it On Deck like your Grandparents did and watch it from there (like I do in RARflix on my Roku 'cause Plex didn’t design the thing)!
Watch Later is still just a You Tube List (that is a way-less-annoying way to watch You Tube than any You Tube app I’ve ever tried to use) you get when you activate the Plex-It link in your browser and that’s all it will ever be - and all it should be.
