Request details:
The addition of an option in the App menu to have the photo slideshow display one or more of the following (where available) in the title bar of the Plex player app in landscape mode or in a little floating translucent box super-imposed at the top right of the screen:
- File name (IMG00792.jpg means nothing to anyone, so let’s have the option to turn it off)
- Date photo was taken/created
- Time and timezone photo was taken/created
- Location photo was taken in
- Photo dimensions
- Camera photo was taken with
- Photo resolution
- Any custom tags
If the picture in question has none of the above saved in its metadata, revert to showing the filename of the photo for that specific image. If only some of the above metadata is available, display as much as possible inline with the user’s settings.
Context
Although we have the power to sort photos by date taken, sometimes it would be really great to know exactly where and when a photo was taken. I know that I can go home, open the photo on my server’s native file system (outside of Plex) and extract the relevant information but when out looking at photos on my phone or tablet with friends, the conversation of:
Friend: “Cool, you have all your photos on your phone! There must be thousands.”
Me: “Yeah, remember this one?”
Friend: “Noooo! When was that?”
Me: “Sorry, I don’t know. Can you wait here for an hour or so while I go home, open it on my server and check for you?”
seems to defeat the purpose of Plex. If I had the photo stored in my phone’s native photo app, I could tell my friend when and were the photo was taken in only one or two taps, so why can’t we do that in Plex yet?
