[Feature Request] Allow mixed movie/tv libraries

I have three general categories of content that I keep on Plex: movies, TV, and anime. Movies and TV are for live action movies and TV respectively, and anime is for all anime, whether movies or series. The problem is that when setting up a library, you have to call it one or the other, and it will apparently not correctly match something if it is from a different category (like an anime series in a “movie” library will not be matched, while if it was in a “tv” library it would be).

I would like the option to set a library to be able to match both movies and tv so I can keep a single anime library for all my anime content.

As I see it allowing the “mixing” of media types would be an extremely bad idea. For a number of shows there is both a “TV” and a “Movie” match available for the same name. This would lead to a number of mismatch situations. So, for this idea, my vote is no.

Plex made a good decision to keep TV shows and movies separate and that should continue. There are literally tons of things Plex needs to work on before even considering adding features like this. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

I fully agree that they should be kept separate by default, as most people will have no need of a mixed library. But, perhaps as an advanced feature you can’t accidentally enabled, the mixed library is something that would be beneficial for people like me with a specific requirement for one. As a safety net, maybe if this feature is enabled you have to manually specify whether individual titles or library directories are television or movies.

Lifelong PlexPass member here. I have wanted this feature in Plex since the very beginning for my Documentary library which would contain documentary TV and movies.

I have to admit I cheated a little on Plex and checked out Emby, which has offered mixed libraries since the beginning, and which works out-of-the-box with a bit of forced matching when things goes awry (no biggie). Emby proves this feature can be implemented in Plex and quite frankly, I think Plex would do a better job of it!

Please consider adding this (or an alternate approach where we can make two content libraries “look” like one from within Plex).

For those of us who really want complete control over how our libraries are organized this is a very useful feature.

Indeed, mixing libraries would be very helpful. Currently I have a long list of libraries by topic with many topics repeated for movies, television, and other videos. I think combining these into a single library (topic) can be achieved by simply doing it on the user interface/experience level as opposed to reworking the nuts and bolts for media scans.

In other words, the ability to tag each of these libraries for a combined view would do the trick.

For instance, I have three libraries for American History documentaries, one for Movies, one for Television, and one for Other Videos (mainly misc video downloads). Imagine this scheme repeated for 20 other topics I have, times 3!!!

I would love for Plex to look like this:

From:
American History Documentaries (w/movie metadata scan)
American History Documentaries (w/television metadata scan)
American History Documentaries (w/Other Video no metadata scan)

To this:

American History Documentaries (combining the above three library views into one and also an option to hide the above so we don’t have 4 libraries with 3 duplicates)

Does this make sense? Am I being clear?
