This is a feature request for Plex Web, specifically concerning music libraries. Currently, if you have shuffle enabled, Plex Web disables the buttons “Play Next” and “Add to Up Next”. These are buttons that allow you to add songs to your queue of upcoming songs, and as far as I can see, there is no reason they should be disabled just because shuffle is on. (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s a screenshot of those buttons disabled because shuffle is on)
Often, I will be listening to music on shuffle, and I will decide I want to listen to one particular track, and then return to shuffle. If those buttons were not disabled, I could simply click “Play Next” on that one particular track, and it’d do exactly what I wanted. However, because those buttons are disabled, I have to turn off shuffle, play that track, then when the track ends, turn shuffle back on. This is a lot of extra tedium for little purpose.
I just responded to your other post and didn’t see this one.
You can’t add to a shuffled list, because shuffling is temporary and cannot be added to or removed from. Once playback stops or you turn off shuffle mode, the list is gone. If you want to add to a shuffled list, toggle off the shuffle first. This will not interrupt current playback. Then add the items you want, then reshuffle the list.
If I did it that way, the song I just added to the list would end up shuffled, but I don’t want it shuffled. When I hit “play next” while shuffle is on, I want it to play that song as the very next song, and then go back to playing the shuffled list once that song is over.
Ah, gotcha. Not currently possible so a feature request is appropriate. That will require a change to the way playlists are handled now so this is not a trivial request. Let’s see how many others like the idea.
I’m surprised this is a feature request. It worked previously…I used it all the time in the web player. Thanks Oxguy3 for giving me the heads up about just turning off shuffle.
EDIT: Once I turn off Shuffle, I can add a song to the queue, but I then am unable to turn shuffle back on.
When did the way that shuffle works change? This used to work, but sometime in the recent past it stopped. If I knew when the change was made, I could go back and install an older version of the server.
It would be really nice if someone could tell me when the way that shuffle works changed. This is on of my favorite ways to interact with my music collection, and it would be worth my time to roll back to a previous version of the server.
Totally agree. I want this feature enabled on the web/pc player. It works just fine in Android. I shuffle a playlist and then I can browse my library and add a track to the playlist without interrupting the shuffle.
Sorry I mistyped. In android I shuffle a playlist and then I can browse my library and add a track to the current queue that is playing without interrupting the shuffle(both “play next” and “add to queue” work). This really needs to be added to the PC/Web version.
I’ve found myself in this situation a few times (albeit with the Windows clients and not the Web App). Would be great to be able to play a single track next while keeping the shuffle on.
