This should be a very simple feature to add. There is no good reason that if I queue multiple playlists that I can no longer shuffle the play queue. As a software engineer I find it ridiculous that what is likely a few lines of code has not been added (get random gen, shuffle play queue list). Instead someone went to the trouble to make sure the UI removes the shuffle button in this scenario. Such a simple feature is almost a killer for me in using Plex as a music player.
UPDATE:
Go to playlists
For any playlist, click the “…” -> Add To queue
Notice the “SHUFFLE” button still works.
For any other playlist, click the “…” -> Add To Queue
I agree, this seems incredibly strange. Why would you not be able to shuffle queued up music? When adding any music to a queue, in any player (eg. web, phone, xbox app) there is either no option to shuffle or the option is greyed out (depending on the platform).
If you cant shuffle chosen tracks via the queue, how are you supposed to do it?
Seems like this has become a dead topic. It would be awesome to add Tracks or albums or entire artists to the play queue (even with synced music) and be able to shuffle the play queue. No knowledge on coding but with all the cool stuff the plex team has done, this seems like it should be simple.
it’s frustrating to have 100’s of songs in the play now (ad hoc) queue and not be able to shuffle them. Have to listen to song after song from same album/artist in series instead of the pleasant listening experience one gets from the shuffling available in a created and registered playlist. This should be so simple to implement, right?
Still a problem with Plex 1.18.4.2164 and web client Version 4.18.1. Thought this had to be a bug since shuffle is a supported feature outside of a Play Queue.
repro:
Music
choose … on an Artist
select Add to Queue
repeat 1-3 for a few more Artists
goto player
Repeat is available/toggles. Shuffle is available but grayed out/disabled.
Agreed. This is a pretty essential and basic feature. Though I’m not sure about all platforms, I know for sure Google Play Music supports this. I’d really like to be able to add a handful of albums to the queue and then shuffle them.
Another vote for this. I don’t understand why it’s not already an option. Any other music player I’ve used in recent memory has the ability, in one way or another, to put together a list of stuff I want to listen to, and THEN shuffle that list. Plex only wants to play it in the order it was added. It’s a really bizarre design decision, and the fact that this thread is apparently 3 years old doesn’t give me a good indication that I’ll be a frequent user.
Not having this feature is aaalmost a deal-breaker. It makes the listening experience very inconvenient and very restrictive. It even discourages me from queuing up songs that I want to listen to because of this.
The only way to get around this is to add the songs you want to queue into the playlist and shuffle it from there, which doesn’t make sense at all as these songs could be unrelated to the playlist.
Might also be out of scope from this feature request, but the shuffle feature is currently very barebone as it only switches to a “shuffled” mode (past tense), it doesn’t re-shuffle the queue but rather switched to another list. Would be nice if it could re-shuffle too.
So I am going to admit this is a pale workaround, but here goes. Tonight I was in the mood to play a Christmas playlist, but I wanted to add the R&B playlist and shuffle. I went to the server computer and started playing the Christmas list. It was playing in a little “client” box on the server computer at the bottom. Then I moused over the R&B playlist I wanted to add and clicked on the 3 dots, this had the option to add these R&B songs to the queue.
Then I opened the play queue. In the little “client” box at the bottom of the server computer there are some horizontal lines with a play arrow and that is the symbol to open the play queue. Just above the list of queue songs to the right is the symbol to make a new playlist, which I will delete when it no longer serves my needs. I named it temp.
This playlist showed up right away in the roku client in my bedroom where I wanted to play the music. Didn’t have to rescan or anything to use it right away.
