I’ve been reading forum posts about my problem and I’ve realised that in different circumstances, people have a similar problem. Wether it’s android tv or a mobile device.
It’s a problem of obtaining the desired transcoder output. Right now it is left up to the software to decide what’s best. That is all nice and well as long as it works. After reading posts it is clear that there are many cases when it doesn’t. I understand your vision is to keep it user friendly and automatic. “Play and forget”
But.. For us users that are struggling for months and even years trying to get the right quality going, we are left waiting.
I propose an advanced quality menu for the video currently being played where we could try and tweak the settings.
I see posts of people that can’t get 4k going because of some sort of negotiating between the player and server. They would be helped with a “temporary” workaround.
For me it’s different but the proposed solution could help me just as well until the automatic functions are working properly. My problem is that my 2.5k display tablet is recognized as 4k unsupported. I can play 4k h264 videos with hw acc fine in vlc. I would so much like to be able to set the transcoder output to 4k h264 but I can’t. I can’t choose anything that Plex deems to be unsupported.
Your software is obviously extremely powerful. It’s so ALMOST nearly there all the way. Thanks for reading and commenting.
