My current Plex set-up works 99%+ of the time. But I’d like to improve matters. I’d like to improve coverage in my house for mobile devices and eliminate any buffering at all. All my problems, almost without doubt, are network issues.
I’d love to improve my network. New router and powerline adapters would be great. But how do I know that my investment is actually making my Plex network stronger? I need to measure intra-network performance.
This is difficult, as these two SmallNetBuilder articles prove. The trouble is, to test the performance between, say, my sever and my iPad while tucked away in the bedroom I need a server and a client to which to write files - if only I had a server that had clients on iPads, computers, TVs and everything!
A speed test button in every Plex client would help Plex too. Buffering is a big issue, and with no easy way to diagnose network issues people, including me, have turned to these forums. A speed test within Plex would immediately alert the user to network problems and let them sort that out, leaving the Plex forums free to deal with actual Plex issues.
