[request] - support user client/server based diagnostics/speed test

While troubleshooting remote playback issues, it would be great if plex provided some kind of speed test directly between the plex client and plex server, so that it can easily be identified if there is some kind of internet/connection/bandwidth based issue going on that is causing problems with playback.

This is really important on mobile networks that may be actively blocking/restricting plex based domains, or just restricting general traffic, while ‘white listing’ ‘speed test’ to make it look like that a user is not being throttled or otherwise being provided degraded service.

Such traffic management may also be happening at the server ISP side, which would not appear when using a client based ‘speed test’ app on the mobile network.

In summary, please provide;

  • help & support > troubleshooting > connection diagnostics/speed test to test ping time, jitter, available bandwidth to/from server.
  • plex already does an internal/informal bandwidth testing metric as part of ‘automatically adjust speed’ and other functions.
  • add a user UI to manually test and provide results

Would be nice to see this in the dashboard as well on currently playing users.
