Just started using the Xbox One version of Plex. Love Plex, been waiting for XB1 Plex, don't want to stop using Plex, but - damn - if the thumbnail images for each episode aren't generating HUGE spoilers.
- "Oh look! That character really isn't dead after all! They come back next season! So everything everyone says about them is irrelevant" :(
- "Nice! Look who gets shot two epsiodes from now..." :(
- "Oh look! She gets turned into a zombie. There goes all the suspense." :(
Maybe there should be the option of selecting how far into the episode the thumbnail is pulled from? Or maybe how it's scraped from the online dB? Or maybe some alternate image to select? (A blank image or icon would be awful though)
Either way, it's a complete deal-breaker from me and I'd have to unfortunately stop using Plex/Plex Pass. :(
The episode image is retrieved from the image on TheTVDB, so that can't be changed. If an image doesn't exist then it scans the file and generates one. I believe you can also add your own episode image. Just name it the same as the episode, which should override the online one. There is also a command line to generate new images at a point you specify.
Thanks, will definitely look into this! :D
Beside what MovieFan wrote you can manually choose between already available pictures in the database or load into the database any picture located on your computer to get your custom artwork.
This feature is accessible if you edit the episode information.
True, but then he'd see even more pictures of the episode which is something he is probably trying to avoid.
Exactly. Plus, I'd have to do this every time epsiodes are added to my library. Completely counter-intuitive for an automated HTPC app like Plex. Even Moviefan's suggestion requires some sort of scheduled scan of the ENTIRE library, in order to cover new epsiodes. Not sure either of these solutions are going to work. Unless I'm missing something... (ie: would the "-s, --scan Scan for new media." trigger work to avoid this issue?)
I ask because Plex has the ability to only update the folders that change, or the folders that are added. Not sure how I can bridge that gap without seeing the spoilers from TheTVDB...
It seems more like what you are looking for is a library list rather than a thumbnail view… Although I don’t care about the images as spoilers since I rarely pay attention and like the pretty look, I do think a list view should be available without thumbnails, should a user choose that.
I found a work around, which is to place an image file (jpg or png) alongside your episode with the same name. This image will then get picked up instead of using the online one.
