[FEATURE REQUEST] Do you want to edit the Audio Track and Subtitle Tracks Labels? (VOTING POLL)

I really don’t want to be able to necessarily edit the subtitle names in Plex, but like everyone else, I would like to see the subtitle naming format be setup to include a designation for Hearing Impaired or Closed Caption. Forced has been added and works well for me, but I would like to be able to list the others as they are so named.

How about some feedback from Plex?
I too have up to 3 different English sub title tracks, on that subtitles the whole movie, one that only subtitles the spoken parts that are not in English and one that is for hearing impaired which describes sound effects as well as speech.
Stupidly they all show in Plex with identical names so it is trial and error to pick the right one.

That would be a ‘forced’ subtitle. It will appear as such if it is tagged in the file.

(and it will get activated automatically with the right settings

So? Often they aren’t flagged as forced. Why can’t Plex do what most other media players can and show me the title of the track? The information is there and being stripped.

How about…? (revisied 18.5.25)
en English transcription of dialog for accessibility
en+ English transcription of dialog + descriptions (SDH)
en! English transcription of dialog plus some forced translations into English
en!! Entirely forced translations into English
en+! English dialog and descriptions (SDH) with some forced translations into English
en+!! Entirely forced translations into English of dialog and descriptions (I’ve never seen this mix)
en&1 English transcription of commentary audio track 1

I refer to the ‘Subler’ forced subtitle settings and SRT file format description (though my perception is the forced subtitles implementation is widely unsupported).
bitbucket.org/galad87/subler/wiki/Srt%20File%20Format

Just a simple naming convention. VLC supports it (see below). It works like --> filename.eng.description.srt

It can be really painful when grabbing multiple subs. It’s not an issue 95% of the time, but that 5% is really a headache. Figured this would be a super easy fix too, but maybe not?

Update: I’ve started naming my SDH external files with the 3 character language code, and my non-SDH files with the 2 character language code. e.g.

Title (year) - 720p.hev.mp4 - Video
Title (year) - 720p.hev.en.mp4 - non-SDH Subs
Title (year) - 720p.hev.eng.mp4 - SDH Subs

Plex will list both as external english subtitle files, though it doesn’t indicate which is SDH.
