[Feature Request] Enable Nvidia GPU Hardware (HW) Transcoding Acceleration on Ryzen Qnap TS-877

@ChuckPa - You’re my hero. My p2000 is patiently waiting in the 1277. Sign me up for Alpha.

Agreed, I’m on a 1677X with a P4000 ready and willing to help.

I will share what knowledge I’ve acquired so far today. ('snot much :smiling_imp:)

  1. QTS 4.4.0 is getting close
  2. Suspicion they did regress the drivers in 4.3.5. They work fine in 4.3.4 but fail immediately in 4.3.5.
  3. Opened another ticket with QNAP to dig into the diagnostic report to send direct to Engineering Taiwan to prove or disrove #2 above
  4. Starting to brace myself for the QTS 4.4.0 testing barrage (BIG upgrade)

Best part?

When I get a package built and usable, Forum Alpha test again

We will be waiting with bells

Don’t Stop!!!

YES!!!
My QNAP873 with Ryzen + R7 are waiting…
And also In a box waiting Nvidia 1060…
Im willing to ALPHA/BETA TEST!

QTS 4.3.5.0760

Any news on this?

Just an FYI, the x73 family of QNAP’s do NOT have a Ryzen level processor in them. You have to jump to the x77 family for the Ryzen chips.

I am with you though, can’t wait to see the HW transcoding branch out beyond the current supported options.

=( Most important is to activate 1060 in PCIE.
But can it be done already then in some virtualization station? Ideally Plex coult natively use PCIE cards

PMS must comply with QTS’ management of all graphics cards.

If the card is in QTS mode, it can be used for Plex.
If the card is in “Virtualization Station” or other mode, It cannot be accessed.

The user makes this assignment in the Control Panel.

I am able to see what the user has selected. When I see:

  1. Supported card
  2. Drivers installed (the package)
  3. Card in QTS mode

I pass the card information to PMS

Awesome, what’s next? How soon can we test?

We are about to make the new PMS builds Plex Pass beta.
When that happens, their next step is Public.
I will be in the mix there with, hopefully, a forum trial of the new external GPU for QNAP.

So I could use my external GPU also with 873?

If QNAP allows it, yes. It is my understanding that only the Ryzen machines currently are allowed.
I have not attempted on Intel models yet as most have QSV capabiltiy.

My 873 is amd RX421-bd with R7

The AMD Embedded R-Series SOC enables stunning video performance, providing
true 4K encode and decode and integrated support for DirectX® 12, Unified Video
Decode (UVD) 6 (4K H.265 4 and H.264 decode) and Video Coding Engine (VCE) 3.1
(4K H.264 encode). Up to three displays are supported with options to use the
Embedded DisplayPort (eDP) 1.4, DisplayPort (DP) 1.2, Digital Video Interface (DVI)
or HDMI™ 1.4/2.0 interfaces.

Quoting the specs is not necessary…

I am progressing as quickly as possible with all the testing.

=) I believe you =) It is just im a novice and hope to start watching 4K videos =)

Looking forward to getting this functional. Anything special that we’ll need to do on the QNAT TS-x77 side? should open hardware trans coding and the ability to handle 4K video without a problem.

The only prerequisite will be to install the NVIDIA_GPU_DRV package from QNAP and then
Set the the graphics card in “QTS” mode (Control Panel - Hardware - Graphics)

Anything new to report? Any idea when the PMS builds Plex Pass beta and QTS 4.4 will be available?
