[Feature Request] Google Home/Assistant integration for Plexamp

I want PlexAmp to be my primary music service within Google Home!

Then when I say

“Play goldfinger on living room soundbar” it automatically starts a casting session from plex/plex amp

Mod-Edit: added a reference to Plexamp to the thread title as well to make it more distinguishable from the wider Google Home Integration suggestion linked by Hitsville

Now that Google Play Music is migrating to YouTube Music, I dream of Plex & Google Home integration more than ever. I dislike YouTube Music for several reasons, including the fact that you have to pay to stream to devices and it shuffles my uploaded library instead of letting me listen to a full album of my own music. I definitely want to jump ship entirely and using PlexAmp as my primary music service just as the OP stated. I really like the PlexAmp App. I just wish I could cast it to my google home speakers. Even if I can’t do it through voice commands, I’d be content with the “cast to” button in the app. Fingers crossed

I currently use Google Play Music and agree with Hel1; YouTube Music just doesn’t cut it for me. I now have until some point this year to switch music service.
I have tried out PlexAmp and love it. The only thing holding me back is the lack of Google Home support.

Agree the new YouTube Music product is not a patch on Google Play Music and thus I won’t swap.
I’ve only just installed PlexAmp to see what it is like and would be great if Google Home support was added, especially for playing on speakers and home hub without any additional cost to listen to my own purchased music.

I came here after asking my Google Home to play a song FROM MY UPLOADED LIBRARY, to find out that I no longer can play individual songs. The youtube music app doesn’t allow me to stream either.

I would love to be able to integrate my Google Home with Plex in a way that I can use my voice to play music from my locally-hosted Plex Library.

+4 for this. just moved the wife and kids to plexamp from google play music and they are all now wanting the ability to use it with the google home devices.

Point of clarification:

Plexamp absolutely DOES cast to all my google home speakers and speaker groups, including the new Chromecast with Google TV (Android TV).

There is just no VOICE COMMAND capability right now, but casting totally works!

I too am in the same boat.

I hated Google Music, but used it and tolerated it. Now that it is gone, I have attempted youtube music… but it is compete trash. Looking for an alternative, maybe a 3rd party setup running home assistant and/or IFTTT to look through my music.

I have Odroid(kodi) boxes running and used this sweet code to voice control my Plex content to my TV’s. It DOES work for music as well, however it plays directly to the Kodi Device. I’m wondering if I can tweak it to play to play to a google home speaker or other speaker device instead.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, Plex listen to your customers. Please get a google home integration to at least your music. I have a lot of very high quality music stored locally (Lossless/FLAC). You would be one of the only providers to offer a solution to easily stream locally.

Update, I’ve been looking into flextv (Formerly Phlex) They have a docker image here

There is suppose to be a bundle plugin directly for plex as well.

I have not got any of this working, but still troubleshooting things.

Have you had any luck with flextv/Phlex? I thought this was discontinued so I wasn’t going to bother.

So Phlex I believe has not seen any action in a while, however flextv is seeing new changes still (latest was 1 day ago). https://hub.docker.com/r/digitalhigh/flextv/builds

I got the container up and running, however i’m still working on getting the networking correct, so it can see all my “chromecast” devices, to send content to. I run like 27 containers currently, so I can’t give it the physical information, but may be able to expose it, or worst case scenario… use a USB adapter, to connect to its own ethernet port. I also just got Fiber, so Im in the process of setting up failovers on 2 WAN’s and configuring policy based routing on my USG. I’ll update info here if/when I get a solution or get it working!

Thanks, I’ll start monkeying with the containerized version. Appreciate it!

We have about 10 Google Home devices in our household (google home/chromecast audio) - but with youtube music being the default we can really only play from 1 device with our voice (“play the beatles”) due to youtube music one stream per account. (and we are a gsuite family so we can’t setup multiple users on the home because…WHY GOOGLE!!! - side rant). With plexamp it would be lovely as we’d be able to play 10 streams in each room internal bandwidth permitting  ) It would really make plexamp next level and I’d walk away from google once and for all.

100% Having a family and wanting to give your kids the joy of music without smart phones and tablets, is a big priority for me. GPM used to work, now I can find no solution. This only works by allowing unrestricted access to my own account and then there can only be 1 streamer in the house at one time. I would buy Alexa devices if I had to, but nobody is offering any voice enabled music streaming as of right now. Plex can do it!

I’d also love this. I spend a lot of time on the road on a motorbike and a car for work. Being able to ask the assistant to play a artist album or song would be a dream.

I would really really like this. I have various devices and being able to use assistant to control plexamp would allow me to do things like skip tracks hands free while shuffling my 30000 track Plex music collection.

This is needed because if I say “play specific playlist on plexamp”, all Google hears is "play specific playlist on plex. Google then opens plex and does nothing… I can’t figure out any way for the Google assistant to register Plexamp as a separate app from Plex.

Yeah would b great to connect Plex in any fashion!! Got a lot of music!

Another vote for this from me. I am able to cast to Google Home devices, but Google is incapable of doing anything when I say play/pause/next or anything really. I honestly would love to be able to request songs directly from Google Home, BUT I’d even settle for at least being able to control cast media like I can with other apps. It’s odd to me Plexamp doesn’t support at least that.
