I like to host a lot of "get togethers" with friends and family. Music is a big part of these events. I have been using a couple different programs in the past (i.e. for has been AlbumPlay) where people can step up to my wall mounted touch screen and request music. A couple important aspects of this is the ability to:
- see "On Deck" playlist (songs queued up in order)
- move songs in queue based on current mood or desire
Feature Request
The feature request is to provide an ability to see queued songs and move them (drag and drop) up/down in order. This gives guests the power to see songs requested and allow me to move songs based on amount of people asking to hear certain songs at certain times.
Enhanced requests furthers the guests empowerment.
Enhanced Request: Voting on Songs
Give guests the ability to connect to the playlist and vote on the songs in the list and prioritize based on vote. If 5 people want to hear "Jump" by Van Halen but 10 people want to hear "Paradise City" by Guns N' Roses, Paradise City moves up above Jump. Remote voting through registered accounts via personal phones is even better.
These are all great ideas, i would love to see features like the ones mentioned here be part of the already awesome PLEX line up! I vote we keep its conversation going, brainstorm and hopefully get more people to give their opinion for a realistic solution that the developers would have fun working on, I vote double for this one!
Hopefully this thread gets pinned so it doesn’t get pushed ,further and further brace from everyone’s line of sight.
Request for this feature to be highly considered by Plex. Plex can be more then just "media management". It can be interactive, engaging and fun. Allowing Plex to shine in multi-people setting and interact with it whether via console or remote, should be a continued maturing of this product.
Just continue to imagine, where this can continue to go. Hosting online music parties, bridging music across cultural divides - creating online music dj stations!
Start small - allow us party hosts to be able to prioritize songs for our guests. Then allow our guests to engage through voting. Then continue to build on these foundations to ignite the world!
I'm all in for this.. Itunes scrapped theirs. I still use it Itunes DJ on my HTPC along with my Ipad to cue songs BUT PLEX would be much better!! It would be nice to be able to cue up songs from an ipad, tablet, phone or laptop. It would be cool fo have this availabe at parties. I would mount the ipad as shown and put it on the bar..
While I see multiple posts have been marked as a duplicate of this one, I don’t see any indication of how to check on the status of the feature request. Is this being considered? I had assumed that this was a feature already, considering how polished everything else seems to be.
I also see a number of forum questions about a development roadmap, but those also appear to be unanswered. Do I assume that this just won’t happen and go looking for another project that I can use as a jukebox (hey, I already have all my music imported, so most of the hard stuff is done), or is there a way to get some sort of a meaningful response?
I shelled out a few bucks to activate the android app for my phone, and it seems to work pretty well, but I can’t see forking over $$ for a plex pass when it looks like there’s not good feedback to users from devs on requests like this.
When and where do responses to feature requests typically appear?
Ok - I’ve thought about this idea as well for a while and have some ideas as well. This could be amazing if done right.
Party Mode - The owner enables Jukebox/Party Mode. This creates a new shared playlist, maybe, “Jason’s Party” and converts a device initiated from into the Jukebox (new view), like iPad into a album art scrolling display, (like a modern jukebox with Now playing options and visualization options.)
This mode also allows anybody with a PLEX app on their mobile device (that also has shared access to this PLEX server) to join the party and pick songs to add to the same queue. “Hey, looks like your at “Jason’s party”, would you like to join the party playlist?”
Queue - Make the queue read only to everybody but the owner, who could remove / move. Also, make an option to shuffle the playlist after every play. This way at a real party, nobody would be stuck listening to 5 DMB songs in a row and nobody would dominate the queue for hours, since picking songs would be free. Optionally, the shuffle could be weighted based on if a duplicate song was picked by two different people.
Those are my initial thoughts. I really like this idea and think it could be great.
Love this idea, and would be wonderful on a device like an iPad. To be able to queue up songs from the Plex library, and now I guess “Tidal”, from an old-school Jukebox type interface. Just trying to throw in the new cloud functionality as to maybe entice the Plex devs to give this an actual second looksy.
Does anyone know if Plex exposes any music based APIs that would allow a 3rd party to plug into it for something like this?
Just adding that I would love to see something like this available in Plex as well.
Maybe a hybrid playlist/jukebox model where you can create a playlist with “x” amount of songs and then songs can get added to it on the fly by you or your guests.
And maybe allowing guests Temp access to your Plex account/server, while connected to your Wi-Fi, to add from their own devices.
Do something similar to a Zoom meeting room, the guest logs on to the Plex app, enters a “code” and they have access to that playlist to add songs from your library. And it will only work when they are on your local network?
I would love to see a “Party mode” tablet option that would allow guests/family/kids/etc a simple interface to browse and add songs to a queue running on another plex device (example: Plex running on my roku hooked up to my Tv and speakers).
Some possible configurable options for “party mode”: allow song skip or delete, queue jump, play now, back ground music timer, whitelist/blacklist artist/genre/style/etc
vtnntv can you please spruce up the main page, as you’re the page any future filtered links go too and would hopefully gather more votes. Feel free to use my or other pics as to give people more of a visual of how it could look. Thanks
