I would love for this to be added. While transcoding isn’t possible, identification would help a ton for filters and playlists also.
Voted! I just got a 77" Sony OLED and started to play 4K HDR/Dolby Vision content. One of the videos had a green/purple tint to it. It showed as “4K” in Plex, other videos shows “4K HDR”. It took me a few days to figure out that was a Dolby Vision video, and fixed my setup (Shield Pro → Yamaha Receiver → Sony TV). If it showed any hint of Dolby Vision, it will be much easier for me to figure out that’s something not configured correctly!
Need this badly. Any way to filter DV content would be helpful
i recently updated my TV app and the latest version (on my Sony XH9505) now plays back DV content on my 65 and 49 without issue
I noticed that the video properties dialog in Plex Web shows Dolby Vision info as “D O V I”
I don’t know if that’s new… but I’m happy to take that for library browsing too if that’s all we can get
As good as you’re gonna get it seems.
Just voted for this as it is becoming increasingly important to me. My movie library is starting to get more and more different versions of the same movie, sometimes a HDR version as well as a DV version (because one is Imax, the other is not or other reasons)
Being able to tell them apart would be a huge plus and as more and more DV versions start to become available, might even be considered essential after a while. So +1 from me!
This would be an amazing quality of life improvement. It’s worth noting on the latest Plex app on Android TV/Shield, you cannot even see the HDR/DV info detailed properly under More Info for a video file, while the same More Info option shows all of this on the PC web/official Plex app.
@chrisallen You indicated back in Nov there was progress on this…any info/update on implementation??
I also would love a simple “DV” indicator, as well as new filter options for:
- HDR + DV
- DV
This would be so useful, and since plex already detects DV this change should be pretty simple to implement imho. I’m quite surprised this hasn’t been implemented, given that the request has been made over 2 years ago!
Any idea of ETA on an update?
5 posts were split to a new topic: Dolby Vision Tone Mapping
It is a licensing issue. Plex needs to pay and be certified by Dolby to offer any support for their format. That is why we dont have tone mapping and that is why dolby vision content isnt labeled as HDR. My best guess is that plex is having issues getting certified. Plex probably does not know any ETA. Bases on past posts from plex employees it looked like things were progressing and there was hope it would soon be resolved but clearly at this point that has not worked out.
I sorta doubt Dolby would approve of tone mapping for DV content at all.
YES. It’s finally here. Today’s PMS update (1.25.6.5545) delivers an indicator for Dolby Vision content:
@cryptochrome
Not seeing this PMS update
It is a BETA update on PlexPass stream (https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/ssjmvi/new_beta_pms_version_available_12565545c8bd13540). I’m sure it will make main branch soon. So so delighted about this change. Little things matter so much in software development, and this is a perfect example. Thank you to everyone who kept asking and requesting this and the devs for implementing. Plex 4ever! <3
Here’s the official release note:
From Plex Media Server - #487 by gbooker02
Plex Media Server 1.25.6.5545 is now available to Plex Pass users in the Beta update channel.
NEW:
- …
- (Stream Metadata) Provide additional detail in display titles for HDR streams (#12492)
I suppose that means one more suggestion to check off Plex’ list ![]()
@tom80H
I’m using the Synology NAS DSM 7 download so I should be able to see DV show up across my clients correct? Just asking because after I installed it, I saw DV show up using Windows but did not see it on my android phone. Need to check Plex on my Shield TV… Thanks
nice
