[Feature Request] Media Info on Dolby Vision Videos

@chrisallen
Fantastic, thanks for this! Will the client apps be updated to also display Dolby Vision tag?

Next question, can we get the tags added for Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD etc now?

Thanks again!! :orange_heart:

Let’s handle that in the related suggestion

Great, this means I can remove my manually created Dolby Vision collection.

there are also some basic tags missing like Dolby Digital 5.1 or 2.0 etc for live tv.

Awesome, can you easily filter out Dolby Vision movies in your library, or is it just shown as info?

As I see, it is currently visible in the PMS but not in any client, correct?
I see that it is correctly displayed in my media library when I browse through it via the PMS over web browser, but I can’t see anything in my (android beta) client

Yeah hoping this comes to the clients soon? And ability to create smart collections filtering on Dolby Vision media would be great!

It actually shows as “4K Dolby Vision/HDR10 (HEVC Main 10)” for Dolby Vision profile 8. This is nice because these are backwards compatible files that work with non-DoVi TVs.

Hey, I don’t know if i’s a bug or not but these info doesn’t appear in the Android app. Is it a known issue ?

Thanx

There was an update today to public branch of Android TV Shield version of Plex, but dissapointed to see this is still not implemented. Simply shows 4K (not even 4K HDR) for Profile 5 DoVi, alas, this is simply not implemented outside of Web version of Plex player (even on Beta branch). Anyone else notice any other players update to show this? I am happy they implemented this at server/WEB level, but really would love to see it for Shield or AndroidTV Plex builds. Thank you.

I concur, this info is now correctly noted on my server (Unraid) but not on my player (Android Shield TV Pro).
Since this info would be most useful on the player side, it would be nice if this can be implemented there as well …

I fully agree. Furthermore, i dont see any significant benefit from this “sever side” only feature. Currently, the web player isn’t able to play DV. Honestly, i dont care what is displayed in my media library when I browse through it via the web client. I would really appreciate if this feature could also be implemented “client side”.

Absolutely. I actually don’t even understand why resources were spent on this before implementing on the Android-TV app. If it was a test to ensure it works, then why not implement in the players still? Any update from Plex devs would be much appreciated, as a Plex Pass member. Cheers.

Everything that the client apps, including Android TV, display as information regarding your media, is coming from the Plex server. The client really only shows what the server has. So naturally, this had to be implemented server-side first.

Now, why it takes them so long to carry it over to the clients is beyond me.

Good point. I guess what I meant is why put resources to have it working server-side and the Web-UI “player”, but no corresponding implementation on any other players/apps. All I can think is either it’s different developers/teams (siloing, lack of co-ordination) or they converted extra resources to all this new “discovery” streaming stuff, and smaller stuff is falling by the wayside. Anyway, let’s hope one day it happens.

Just noticed it now says "4K DoVi/HDR10 (HEVC Main 10)" instead of “4K Dolby Vision/HDR10 (HEVC Main 10)” on PMS Version 1.26.0.5715

I wonder did Dolby get involved since ‘Dolby Vision’ is trademarked?

Might make sense that they got pushback internally or otherwise, and that is what delayed implementing displaying this data in all Plex player apps. Let’s hope updates come soon.

I just noticed too. Anyway, I was surprised that it was written out completely. But I can live with the abbreviation very well. It’s welcome to stay as it is.

@w_vermont_hotmail_com @TobyX totally agree with you here!
The feature currently makes only little sense.

What surprises me is that there is even a step backwards on Android. Even the “Main 10” behind HEVC is missing here :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I am of the opinion that this request is only completed when it is displayed on all clients.

Nevertheless, it’s nice to see that things are progressing.

There is still nothing one can do to have DV files sorted automaticaly?

Any announcement on ability to create a smart collection for DoVi? Can’t see it on the web client for any advanced filter selection.
