It’s a hassle to increase the brightness on the device just to view 30 mins of content before sleep and then exiting the player will have all static elements like my apps and app drawer so effin bright. It’s so annoying to notch it down again.

And, player brightness should be in the player and not in the device settings where I’ll have to scroll through all the deluge of notifications (before starting to watch a movie) to get to my brightness slider in quick settings menu. It’s quite annoying to do that.

Android sometimes adjusts or dims the screen for battery saving or screen timeout. Player-controlled brightness can optically brighten the content without disabling timeout settings.

Some videos might be too dark or too bright by default. An internal brightness slider lets users fix that without needing to fiddle with system-wide settings.

No mature player in the market like VLC or MPV depend on device brightness settings. Even our direct competitor, jellyfin, has this.

Even big tech streaming services, for example Netflix and few others has its own brightness slider.

I find the way the YouTube ReVanced player is controlled (“Swipe Controls” patch - code) is one of the most intuitive. By default, sliding up or down on the right side of the screen directly adjusts volume with visual feedback, and sliding the left side of the player screen directly controls brightness, with the lowest position being ‘Automatic’.
There are some other quality of life features I’ve noticed missing from the new app (on Android), the most notable for me being the lack of double tap to skip forward and back.
