Hi Plex Peeps,
I have always used the “Secure connections: Required” feature as I share my library remotely with family and friends. This hasn’t been an issue as i would just simply use secure connections across my home network… until now.
I am now using plex to stream 4k content within my home network. 4k bit rate is so high it doesn’t play nice with the LG TV’s 100Mbps network port so i have switched to using WiFi. The 4k content also doesn’t play nice with “Secure connections”, i guess due to the additional encryption overhead. I see much higher bandwidth spikes on the plex server when non-secure connections are being used for 4k content.
I am currently using “Secure connections: Preferred” to get around this issue… but now i have to worry about family and friends disabling the ‘secure connection’ feature or using a player that doesn’t support ‘secure connections’ (ie PS3 or Xbox360).
I know there are a lot more important plex features/fixes needed, just thought i would throw this out there. Maybe it wont’ be too much additional work as the Plex server already understands local vs remote connections for the bandwidth limiting feature.
