Long story boring, I had an idea that I thought would be really useful - TV programming block style playlists.
To better explain what I mean: say it’s 1999 and you’re thumbing the TV guide. You look at 5:00 on channel 45 and you see Show #1, then Show #2, then Show #3, and finally Show #4. So, at 5:00 you watched channel 45 and you get an episode of #1, then #2, then #3, and finally #4. It came in the order you expected and the episode you expected. The next day you watch at the same time and you get the next episodes of each of those shows in the same order again. Lather, rinse, repeat.
If we put that in Plex terms, lets say you make a playlist and you make it Show #1, then #2, #3, and #4. The playlist would play one episode from each show in the set order, and each episode played would be the next episode in the series. So you could realistically make “playlists” that act more like programming blocks. You would be able to make lists of series that have running stories but not be thrown off by it shuffling around to random seasons (as is the case for collections and playlists), and if you wanted to use this in shows that don’t tell a continuous story this would ensure you don’t get delivered the same episode twice before you have seen each episode from that series.
This might be possible to integrate into existing collections and could just exist as a checkbox in the “Edit collection” window as a shuffle option.
There’s already an existing suggestion discussing an option to play a random show you’ve added to a playlist while keeping the episodes of that show in sequence (as per your example). I suggest you comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes. Unless I’m missing some unique aspect of your suggestion I’ll close this thread as a duplicate.
I do not believe this to be the same request. while that request is focusing on keeping episodes in the same sequence I am looking to keep the particular show in the same sequence. such as Malcolm in the middle = TV show A and 3rd Rock from the Sun = TV show B. I would like to be able to just add the show and not specific episodes to a play list order but when the playlist plays in shuffle order a random episode from A plays and then a Random episode from TV show B plays. Kind of like creating your own TV guide schedule. If shuffle isn’t selected then TV show A Can play 1 episode in episode order and then TV show B plays one from episode order
That’s pretty much what’s requested in the other suggestion… maybe I’m missing something about the shuffling part of your suggestion, that seems a bit different across your posts.
