[Feature request] Plex for Kids

I'd like a "kids mode" in Plex iOS-app. Or perhaps even a stand-alone app, "Plex Kids" :). No settings, no selectable subtitles etc. Just thumbnails and a play/resume-button sort of. Dad or mom should take care of configuration in some other way. :)

This is an interesting request. It falls under Multi-User, "local user" (not full plex.tv account but still useable), Parental Controls, App UI/UX Design. But not fully under a single one :)

It's like a simplified mode for plex, not necessarily or exclusively for kids but i'd say "novice" users :)

Currently I can't put my 3 year old in front of Plex unless I start the movie myself and pick another one when that one's done playing.

There's simple too much stuff going on that I don't want him to mess with. :)

A simpilied UI would be very nice.

Honestly, I see this as a separate client.  This would allow you to have a completely distinct experience.

I'd like to see some type of kid mode or kid app too, great idea.

I think the Netflix Kids mode would be a good template for this.

I like the look of it, but a kids mode should be logged into an account with restricted access...  See Parental Controls.

With a simplified UI that also takes away channels and recently added on deck... Just make it all easier

My 3 year old has actually learned how to fling from her android (an old phone relegated to wifi only/spotify usage) to the Roku....but I agree, a watered down 'kids mode' would be awesome, just not sure it's as necessary as parental controls.

almost like a kiosk/idiot mode or something, kind of a neat idea

Can Plex autoplay the next episode when you have multiple episodes of a TV show?  Netflix does this very well and keeps the kids occupied.

I agree, a simplified “Kids Mode” Would be awesome for each client. As the OP stated, no other options but movie list and play/pause/rewind. Maybe add to playlist, or more automatic features, like if an episode is selected, just playlist the rest of the season. Would be cool!

I’ve never seen a “kids mode” (or “idiots mode”, which you prefer… :)) in a movieplayer even if I bet that’s a huge userbase.
There are simply too many “clicks” at the moment.

I would love something like this as well.

The way I figure it, it should be easy enough of a feature to implement, Well in theory…

Create a “skin” or interface change. Force login to a specific home account. Show basically the same thing that you get when you’re logged in, but remove some functionality (selecting servers, changing users, etc) it has to be possible.

I would also love a kids specific interface. Even if it was a completely separate app.

I use the Plex Home features and my kids have two kid specific libraries they have access to, no channels. The parent account requires a pin.

9 times out of 10 the launch something from the main recommended screen as all they see their is kids stuff.

I would love to see something like collating all the seasons of kids shows, and just playing the episode when clicking the thumbnail.

If you could enable kids mode in the home user section, and it would just go to 'Browse All" so you see a grid of whatever is in the kids library, choose a thumbnail and voila it starts.

I don’t have kids but this would be a great “parents interface” ie for my older parents that use my server and get confused by all the options and data.

Yes for a Kids version! Mine already thinks its a game to play with settings. Ha!

what a great idea, even though i have separate libraries assign to my kids restricted users they find it very hard to navigate thought the IOS app most likely the will play anything that comes into the discover tab.

I would definitely vogue for this feature, hope to see it somehow soon in plex.
