[Feature Request] Restrict Shared Content by Denying Labels and Ratings

Could the ability be added to restrict movies, TV shows, etc. on accounts based on denying media that has specific ratings and labels? Currently there are allow lists for labels and ratings on user restrictions, can we have deny lists as well? For example, I have 10 movies out of 350 that are in my movie library that are super gory that I would rather not share with family members but I would also rather not create an entire new library to deny them access. It would be miles easier to just add a label to those few movies and restrict that label on user accounts (unless I’m missing something). This could work the same way with ratings. It would be easier to restrict say NC17 movies from being seen by someone than trying to add every other rating to an allow list.

Agreed, it is far more logical to exclude the odd movie that doesn’t quite fit the intended audience than to manually have to include each movie by tags

This would be perfect for photo sharing too. Say for example I have a photo gallery of a family holiday but I want to exclude one image from my dad who also uses my plex server with his account, this feature would resolve my problem. Instead I currently have to either store that image in another folder outside of plex, or put a sharing label on every single image in the gallery other than the one i want to restrict. Since there is no bulk way to do this, it is not feasible.

Allowing either restriction to/from labels for each type of media would be a much more efficient system . I would rather add tags to the 50 movies that I do not want to share rather than apply them to the remaining 500.

+1 for this. Would like to UNshare content that I am allowing my friends and family to view from my account.

+1 for this too

<<throws his +1 in the pile

+1 - Much more efficient. Would be a great feature. Please add!

+1 Seems more likely to get used this way round than the current system if you ask me.

+1 — I’ve been hoping for this for a while, assuming it was just a logical progression of label functions.

This is a popular request, and I hope Plex is working on it. But in the meantime, I wonder if everyone is aware that you can edit multiple items at once, which gives you at least a workaround until Plex implements this request.

If you follow this guide, you can select multiple items in your libraries.

To add a ‘safe’ label to the majority of your movies/albums/TV shows, do the following:

  1. Shift-click the first and last items in your library. This will select every item in between them as well.
  2. De-select all the ‘unsafe’ items in the list.
  3. Click the ‘Edit’ tool in the left sidebar.
  4. Go to the Sharing tab and add your ‘Safe’ label to the Labels field.
  5. Click ‘Save Changes.’

Going forward, you’ll need to add the ‘Safe’ label to new movies that you’ve added, but at least you don’t have to go through your entire library one at a time.

This would be a really useful feature, hopefully it’s being looked at.

Would also love to see this addition.

+1 I would like this feature as well.

+1 - This is a really useful and important feature!

Sigh, this is what I thought I’d have to resort to… It’s way more of a PITA to add a label to every new item than to only add a label when you want to restrict a particular thing. I have 3 items out of hundreds that I don’t care if family sees but don’t want the odd friend seeing, but now I have to either set up a separate library/file directory structure or label everything new.

+1 really Really REALLY would love to have this feature. Pretty Please Plex, add this!
