Feature Request: Static IP server property

I have a VPN setup and half the time Plex connected ok, and other times it get the VPN IP and connection fails… seems there are more my.plexapp.com ip addresses than I have been able to work out and out to my routes.

There is a field to apply a static port… How hard would it be to add an option to allow users to set a static IP address, so users that do have static IP’s and VPN problems can get around this problem? There is a lot of talk about VPNs and Plex connections, and I think this would sort it out for everyone that has a static IP

There is now a new setting: Custom Server Access URLs in Network Advanced Settings for the server

Does this help ? An IP could be entered there

Im not sure how this works, or what it really sets… I tried to enter something to just test to see what would happen… i entered in http://microsoft.com as the test so that it should fail… good way to test to see what gives

Remote Access server setting didnt seem to change anything
Private 10.0.1.100 : 32400 Public xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:32400 (VPN ip)

I can still use the launch feature at plex.tv and things still work

thanks for the tip… I will keep reading the blog and forums about this setting to see what and how and if its something that will control remote access

Suggest you remove the Microsoft URL - do you want plex to be blamed for inappropriate access to the Microsoft website ?

This feature should add an extra connection route which you should be able to see in the XML returned by

https://plex.tv/pms/resources.xml?includeHttps=1

Try it with a public IP address for your VPN route into your server and sign out and sign in again in settings general for the server

2021 clean-up: implemented (using Settings > [Server Name] > Network > Custom Server Access URLs)
