The current Plex Transcoder seems to be based on FFMPEG 2.5 which doesn’t support hardware accelerated decoding for nVidia GPUs on Linux systems. (as described here)
FFMPEG >=3.3 however can make use of accelerated encoding and decoding for nVidia GPUs: developer.nvidia.com/ffmpeg
So it would be great if you could merge the latest changes into the Plex Transcoder to support more than just Intel QuickSync under Linux.
I find it kind of strange btw. that nVidia is advertising Plex on their FFMPEG site even though Plex currently doesn’t really support hardware acceleration for nVidia GPUs. It’s really misleading imho.
Just noticed the “** HW decode support will be added to libav in the near future” in https://developer.nvidia.com/ffmpeg, could that be a problemsolver for us as plex uses libav?
+1 for this feature. I would like to be able to start using 4K media. Running Plex in a Linux container on my server and want to leverage my GPU for more than just encode.
