[FEATURE REQUEST] Watch This Move in Normal, 3D, 4K, etc

I currently have separate folders/libaries for regular movies, 3D movies and now 4K movies. It would be very useful to be able go to a single movie and have the option to view it normally, in 3D or in 4k (or any other version that might be available).

Play
Play 3D
Play 4K
Play Director’s Cut

These options could be set manually by going to the movie > Edit > Versions tab. On the versions tab, you can identify where the movie is located, as well as what type of move it is (3D, 4K, Director’s Cut, etc). Perhaps even make certain versions unavailable for streaming.

Allowing a user to set this up manually would be ideal since many people already have their own folder structures but not everyone has multiple versions of the same movie

This feature is already present but not exactly with buttons and whistles. All of your versions of the same movie can be in one folder as long as the name properties are the same up through the date specification. In my movie folders I typically have 2 or 3 versions of the same movie for example:

Bourne Ultimatum (2007) - Bluray.mp4
Bourne Ultimatum (2007) - 4K.mp4

When you have multiple versions of the same movie in the folder (and only when) the app will have an option to select the version you want to watch. For example from my Samsung TV app I select the movie and then a new button will appear under the normal play icon which has the play icon with 3 dots “>…” When you select this you will get the option to select different versions.

Good luck!

Also, when you have multiple versions in the same folder you can set PLEX to automatically select the best version for the connection type. With some of the movies I also create a 3rd version that is formatted for tablets or phones in something like 480p so that it minimizes transcoding for my remote users.
