I cancelled my Plex Pass today. Not because I dislike Plex, and not because it isn't totally awesome, but because it doesn't quite do what I need on Android. Here is the kicker: I can't imagine it would be too tough to bring a few of these features that I have come to rely on on other players like MX Player to the Android version, and I promise I will start right up again because I seriously LOVE LOVE LOVE being able to sync content locally to my device for later use.
All I really want is three things to be possible while viewing cached content:
1: Allow me to view content in landscape or portrait: I have a Note 3 and with all that extra screen and multiwindow, I would love to be able to do this.
2: Allow me to set something so that when I turn off the screen or go to the home screen, the audio continues to play in the background.
3: allow me to set it to auto-advance to the next show in a given series.
That's it. Give me these things and I promise you I will happily fork over my cash. Seriously. I don't mean to come off as whiny. Rather, I am sincere in saying that I really want Plex to be my main video solution on my Android, so I felt compelled to come here to outline why I cancelled so that maybe in the future I can check back in and see these things are there and Plex can work for me afterall.
In the meantime, I will sadly go back to the stoneage and manually copy my video files to my micro sd card and watch them on MX Player.
You can have the plex client use MX player as it's external player.
Inside the plex app go to settings, then select "device media profile"
From there select "Media Profile" and click on External Player....
Now when you select a video to play it will ask you which player to use, just select MX player.
I don't think this will help with item 3 though, but it should cover items 1 & 2
