Feature Suggestion: Potential Integration of Audius Music's Free API into Plex

Dear Plex Team,

I understand and acknowledge the existing post regarding third-party integrations and the challenges associated with content provider partnerships.

I’ve carefully read the information provided about requesting potential Plex third-party integrations.

Suggestion Overview:

Given the recent conclusion of the Plex-TIDAL partnership, I would like to propose a potential integration that may align with Plex’s capabilities and user interests: incorporating the Audius Music Free API into the Plex ecosystem.

Key Points:

  1. Free API: Audius Music offers a free API, which could potentially reduce financial barriers to integration.

  2. Decentralized Platform: Audius is a decentralized music streaming platform, which may present unique opportunities for content delivery and rights management.

  3. Expanding Music Options: This integration could provide Plex users with access to a diverse range of independent artists and content not available on mainstream platforms.

  4. Technical Feasibility: Given that Audius provides an open API, it may be more technically feasible to integrate compared to other services with more restrictive APIs.

  5. Legal Considerations: As a decentralized platform, Audius may have different contractual structures regarding content rights, potentially aligning with Plex’s integration criteria.

Request for Consideration:

I kindly request that the Plex team explore the possibility of integrating the Audius Music API.

This suggestion is made with the understanding that multiple factors, including technical compatibility, legal considerations, and strategic alignment, would need to be evaluated.

Thank you for your time and consideration of this feature suggestion.

and for what it’s worth, they seem to have their fair share of copyright struggles (e.g. a lack of mechanisms to enforce reported violations) – at least that’s among the first things coming up when googling them

In the end it’s still another provider / 3rd party integration request… not sure it’ll be left open.
