File Name Search

I have a rather large Plex Library and have noticed that some files have matched to different movies…however, I can’t find the match to a specific file. I know the file is matched to something that it’s not.

Is it possible to search the Plex Libraries for a specific file name (not media/movie name) to correct wrong matches? I’d rather not review 1700+ movies one-by-one looking for a specific file name. Any help/idea would be appreciated and thank you in advance.

Plex offers no means to search for particular file names – there’s only the options to filter a library by duplicates or unmatched items.
You might want to take a look at WebTools-NG which allows you to export a wide range of library information to a spreadsheet format where you can more easily search for the information you’re looking for.

If you have a lot of mismatches, you’re probably going to have to review how you have those movies named on your file system. In most cases Plex will find the right match if you use “Movie Name (2022)” Odd cases are where the same title exists for multiple movies with the same year

You can also use a renaming tool like TinyMediaManager or filebot to input the IMDB or TMDB movie id number i.e. {imdb-tt0442469} There’s not really any wiggle room for the matching process using this method

Finding duplicates or unmatched items is ok but if you don’t change the files, this problem will reoccur at some point.

If you ever have to rebuild your sever or refresh your metadata you will have to go through this whole process again

If your movies are in separate folders (Recommended), you could in the Web Client switch to folder view

Then navigate to the file, and you’ll see what it matched as

Let’s say you’re on your Home page showing a bunch of poster thumbnails.
poster → kebab ⋮ → get info will show you the specific file.
