File naming of optimized files

I use the media optimizer to transcode a load of files which I transfer to a portable hard drive so I have access to media when I don’t have internet access. At the moment the file names are changed from the original files. I’d like to keep the filename the same if possible, or at least have some level of control over the file naming.

For example the file names for TV shows are just S01E01.mp4 and inside a folder with the TV shows name. Ideally the file itself would also have the TV show name.

FileBot is the perfect friend to do this

I’ve used it before - but isn’t ideal for my work flow.

At the moment this is what I am doing.

  1. Choosing which TV Shows and Movies I want to have with my on my portable hard drive. For movies I create dynamic playlists that update based on filters set up in Plex.
  2. Plex optimizes all the files for me and I tell Plex during the setup process to put them in a specific folder
  3. Before I go on travels I use rsync to sync the files Plex has optimised with the files on my hard drive
  4. The hard drive is plugged in to a travel router so my kids can access the files on their iPads when we are in the car
  5. We use Infuse in the car which doesn’t recognise the file names that Plex uses for TV Shows (ideally the tv show name would be included in the file name).

I used to have a WD My Passport Pro which has a Plex Server on it which solved the problem as the Plex Server on the Passport Pro would understand the filename conventions that Plex Media Optimizer uses. However it has stopped working and they are no longer sold so not an option.

I could use Filebot - or similar - but that would mean either the rsync wouldn’t work any more (as I’d be renaming the files on the hard drive), or Plex would lose track of the optimised versions it had made if I renamed the files after it had been optimised.
