Filmography Error

This is far from critical, but may be an indicator of something more important…

Today I was looking at the filmography for Lance Reddick (born June 7, 1962). I was surprised to find that it shows him with a role in a 1951 Hallmark Hall of Fame production as (the character) ‘George Thacker.’ Now, I’m neither the biggest math wizard nor fully cognizant of Hollywood’s child labor laws, but I suspect that -11 years old is just a little too young.

He also played a character named George Thacker in 1997’s “What the Deaf Man Heard”, so perhaps that confused the filmography code, but that would probably indicate something quite poor, since multiple actors can play the same character and character names may be re-used. Regardless, since it is impossible for someone to be in a movie before they’re born (I’m intentionally not counting their pregnant mother) it is very wrong for Plex to include media dated before the performer’s birth in their filmography (or any other -ographies that Plex may present.)

Looks like the pre-birth reference is for a „Hallmark Hall of Fame“ Series that aired from 1951 to 2013. Plex will only show the year such a show first aired, no matter how many decades later an actor appeared in it… though I admit this had me confused more than once too.

Thanks for the clarification. I checked your link and found that his episode was actually in 1997. Too bad the extra click (on Full Cast), search (for Lance Reddick) and click (on his character’s name) it took to find that is (currently?) beyond the capabilities of the metadata extractor. I suppose once “AI” infiltrates Plex’s metadata agent(s) we’ll starting seeing all of those details as well as the actor’s costumes, dialog, food preferences and shoe sizes!

At least I understand that this isn’t a Plex bug, but an issue with the source metadata being, um, tricky to present in a simple way. Thanks again!
