Fire TV (4k) vs Roku 4 as a gift?

Which has the better Plex experience? I am considering one of these as a gift for a friend to access my Plex server over the Internet. I’m not concerned about picture quality as much as navigation and searching. Thanks!

OK, How about any Fire TV vs. any Roku? I found a thread complaining about the lack of search on the Fire TV but it was a very old thread. Thanks!

If it’s just or only to access Plex; I’d go with a Roku 2or 3. Lot’s of people seem to have issues with the Roku 4 and for the price difference I think the 2 or 3 is pretty darn good.
The Fire TV has a slick interface and the picture quality is fabulous; but it’s very much an Amazon machine that will only let you do what they want; the way they want. I used mine for about two weeks; till I realized that it was constantly downloading ads and doing it’s pre-fetching thing, to the point of making my internet useless.

I own a Fire TV and a couple of Roku 3s. The Fire gets very very little use as I use it only for the few things it does better than the Roku. The one thing is the Play Station Vue interface for the purpose of setting up recordings BUT I use my Rokus even for Vue for playback.

The Fire interface is just horrible to use for almost all functions and, although the Plex interface is far from perfect on the Roku, trying to use the Fire for Plex often proves to be a exercise in frustration.

So, for me, bottom line is that I would almost always gift a Roku to just about anyone unless the only use that was planed viewing Amazon content.

Awesome. Decision made  TY!
