What is the estimated timeframe to publish the PMS Open API documentation? I already have an idea for what I’d like to do with it, so just hoping that is soon.
Just read the blog about the approach of having separate apps from photos and music, but it’s not clear if this applies to only the mobile phone app or will impact devices like NVidia Sheild. If the plan is to have separate apps for everything, then can I say that this is a really DUMB idea for playback devices like NVidia Sheild where I want everything is a single app, I REALLY DON’T want to have to swithc between apps if i decide to play some music in between watching videos!!!
Is Plex the only app you use on your Shield?
Yes, everything I watch/listen to is on PLEX server, so no need to switch between apps.
What’s the point of this question ? Seems argumentative! Like @nik.simpson we only use plex on the shield in our house, no other app is even installed outside of whatever comes on the shield by default.
Man, i would just like the android tv app to have the ability to select audio codecs. And for 4k video playback to work if the audio needs to be trancoded.
Simple things right?
Does this mean that you can finally bypass the existing limitation and assign several artists to an album without it being sorted into the “Various Artists” category?
That would be really great news!
NFO support will initially only be for movies and TV.
„ initially“ is the word I like most in your response. That leaves some room for hope. I think the feature request on this topic has been around for ten years. And since I know that you can’t change a database structure just like that, NFO files would be a viable option in my opinion - even if that would mean a lot of manual work on the part of the user.
Let’s see, if the boredom in your Plex everyday life gets too big, you can think about the NFO thingy for music again… ![]()
Will it be free? Since years I’m using the current Web-API to dump folder icons, fanart icons and the XML files. These are stored along with the content itself.
The current Web-API is blinding fast. It would be bad if it would become a feature I have to pay for. I’m no developer, I do it for my libraries, just for fun.
I’m also interested in this. Will there be a release in beta form when its in a rough state?
Also I assume there is an amount of backfilling for this, which will take time. A roadmap on the development side would be a nice have.
I doubt the NFO work is done enough for them to share with us. Hopefully we get a preview and can provide feedback.
Two questions:
-
For many of the artists in my music library, I have video content (concert videos, music videos, documentaries, etc.). On my Apple TV I enjoy perusing through my library and easily playing those videos related to the artist. Splitting video from music will make this a little more complicated. What are the plans for supporting local artist music videos (Adding Local Artist and Music Videos) with this new planned separation?

For years there have been requests for better music metadata support, especially to support Classical music. Are there plans to improve this in PMS?
If Plex players are taking a bit of a back seat or changing, such as moving audio playback to another app, is the Plex video app still going to get updates to audio output?
A lot of people have HRA (High Resolution Audio) for their music (myself included). Those are typically compressed to FLAC format.
I have a bunch of Blu-rays I’ve imported from Japan, and they have 24-bit 48kHz PCM audio (not FLAC). It appears 24-bit 48kHz PCM audio isn’t supported, and that’s probably why I’ve had so many audio issues with my imported Japanese shows (they come with PCM audio on the disc).
I’m bringing this up because I don’t want the PlexAmp app to get support for high-res audio and the Plex video app to get left behind. Is this something where both apps will get updates when audio codecs change?
I’m really concerned about music videos. I have a LOT of music videos carefully named with the correct conventions to enable them to integrate fluidly with my library. It worries me that there’s been silence on this topic.
With support for 3rd party metadata agents with the same level as plex and a openAPI will it be possible for developers to interface directly with Plex’s own metaagents, I’d love to be able to make use of TMDB episode groups to display series in alternative orders, but even more I’d love to do this without touching the actual files on disk, considering TMDB episode groups have mappings already for the original order vs the alternative order, this would be a killer feature.
It seems clear to me that since nfo support is a priority, that translates into higher focus on local media support.
Hello, I just wondered if there’s any update on the Plex API documentation being published? I have a Plex-based desktop music player app that I’d love to add some more features to, but it’s quite challenging without any official API docs. Many thanks!
