Firestick 4K buffering only when hardwired

Server Version#: 1.22.1.4275
Player Version#: 8.15.0.23855
I have a weird problem. When my Firestick 4K is connected via wireless everything works fine. Plex Netflix Youtube IPTV all run fine. When I connect it wired everything else still runs great except for Plex. If I’m streaming from my own local Plex server it is fine. High bitrate 4K movies no problem. But any remote servers and it takes forever to load and then buffers briefly every 5 seconds or so. Even on extremely low bitrate files. If I pull the wired connection and connect via wireless then Plex remote servers are fine again. Any thoughts as to why only Plex is affected? Thanks.

Have you tried installing Speed test on your firetv and test it? Sounds like you have a bad wire adapter.
Netflix works well even on slow networks due to their good algorithms

The adapter - even on it’s finest day - can only do some percentage of 100Mbps and that’s probably about half of that.

5G WiFi is way faster.

Fire Cube is also compromised in the same way.

The moral of this story is - get 5G WiFi to the stick. I use a 3’ HDMI Extender that gets the unit out from behind the TV so it can see the 5G WiFi without issue and I am confident that’s as fast as it will ever be.

I just downloaded ‘Analiti’ - a free speedtest thingy at Amazon. The WiFi 5G is 1300Mbps/49Mbps and I only have 50Mbps upload… so… yea… that’s faster than my Ethernet to the Rokus.

Also - if you don’t think that 3’ of Extension is doing anything… when I move the stick behind the TV - it’s 500Mbps/49Mbps. Out to the side with nothing but air between… 1300Mbps/49Mbps. There’s only about 8 feet between the stick and the router so clear air does make a difference.

Also - out here in the sticks the internet’s only 450Mbps at the moment, so the local WiFi has that beat by a mile.

This is surprisingly valuable advice. TVs are WiFi-hostile.
