are your Synology NAS and the Fire TV in the same subnet?
Plex will only see the server/client locally if they’re on the same subnet. If you have multiple access points or routers that establish their own network, this will block Plex from seeing each other.
If this happened by accident, you can double-check your router/access point and set them up in “bridge mode” (this way, they will be a part of the overall network instead of creating their own subnet.
With a Plex Pass you can also specify if certain subnets are supposed to be considered local.
Yes, all devices are in the same subnet. IP addesses are fetched via DHCP with a FritzBox as DHCP server. The FritzBox always assignes the same address to the server (and the other devices as well).
I’m pretty shure nothing is blocked.
The firewall on the Synology NAS is off, Fritz.Box only filters traffic to the internet.
From the browser on the FiteTV Box I can access my NAS.
My IP subnet is 111.111.111.xxx - can that produce problems. I had to use a SSH tunnel to install the server.
Bringing up PLEX on my Windows PC either by its name “MyNAS.fritz.box:32400” or via the IP address, the server is marked as “Remote” on the left menu bar. Does that ring a bell?
well… that certainly explains why the Plex client didn’t consider your server to be local.
As for “A lot of work just for Plex”… you seem to have spend a lot of effort to configure your Fritz!Box in a custom way in the first place, so it’ll be more of cleaning that up than something fancy for Plex itself
Well, I’s more a question of a few “non-DHCP” enabled gadgets, like RS232 to LAN converter oder S0-Logger. The biggest problem ist my robomower - the theft protection uses WLAN SID and - if I’m unlucky the IP.
