QNAP Plex Server

Server Version#: 1.13.8.5395
Player Version#: Latest

I am trying to configure my plex server so that local area networks do not route externally to play my movies etc…

I have 2 subnets

1 LAN = 192.168.168/24 (this is where the plex server resides)
1 WLAN = 192.168.169/24 (this is where my Amazon 4k TV running plex client resides)

The issue is whenever I connect to the PLEX server from the PLEX client… it routes externally

I have the packet traces showing this… within the network settings of the server I have added 192.168.169.0/24 as well as even tried adding the player 192.168.169.138 by itself with no success

I’m having trouble understanding your problem. Both the server and client are on the same subnet: 192.168.XXX. When you say “externally” what do you mean? And what is the functional problem–does the client not connect to the server? In any event, I wonder if you have a firewall issue that needs fixing at the router.

The plex client is connecting to the internet IP of the PLEX server. And you are correct they are both on the same network…

The plex server has an internal IP of 192.168.168.53 and the plex client has an IP of 192.168.169.138 but is not connecting to the .53 address but rather the internet address of the plex server. I guess I should have added that I have 2 ISP’s. The Plex server has a different default gateway than the plex client… there is nothing prohibiting the 2 subnets from communicating.

In Settings → Network → LAN Networks, try adding both subnets, comma separated, no spaces.
Try this: 192.168.168.0/24,192.168.169.0/24
Not this: 192.168.168.0/24, 192.168.169.0/24

How do you route between the 168 and 169 networks?

Give the FireTV a static IP address and set the default gateway to the interface of the router to the 168 network, not to the Internet gateway.
