Fixed - Could not play MKV or MP4 Files, "Unknown decoder" - Win10 PMS

hi!

i was getting the following error when trying to play mkv and mp4 video files:

Sep 23, 2018 23:22:03.566 [15668] ERROR - [Transcoder] Unknown decoder ‘h264’

(obviously the decoder was different when it was an mp4; would say mpeg4)

i’m posting this because i could not find the answer anywhere and i wanted to share.

wherever your plex app data is (usually c:\users\youruserhere\appdata\local\plex media server) there’s a codecs folder. make sure you have full rights to the dll files in there

then you should be able to play the video files.
