I like to tag my music with the albumsort tag for flac and the albumsortorder tag for mp3 files, so that albums are sorted by “Artist - Year - Album” though I notice when I click the edit album button in plex the “Sort Album” field is just left as the default Album name.
Musicbee and foobar both show the tag correctly so I’m confident there is nothing wrong with the way the file is tagged. Is this possibly a bug with plex and that field not correctly picking up the Flac’s version of the tag since the flac and mp3 album sort tag do differ?
Plex only has support for a few tags. Somewhere on these forums, one of the ninjas posted the list of tags Plex does support. If one of them happens by, I’m sure they can post it again, or maybe I’ll find it. (EDIT: I think this is it)
I’m pretty sure albumsort/albumsortorder isn’t among them. When Plex fills the Sort Name field, it takes the album name as is, although it will remove articles (‘The,’ for example).
There are a number of feature requests (a couple are mine) asking for more thorough support of ID3 tags. Not much to do but wait and hope, for now.

I had no idea so few tags were properly supported.
I can confirm that the ID3 tag “ALBUMSORTORDER” is supported but the vorbis “ALBUMSORT” is not.
