Server Version#: 1.27.0.5897
I am in the midst of Ripping my Collection of Audio Books so I am sure I did not change anything in my workflow. I just found out that the ID3 Tag ALBUMSORT seems to be ignored. And it definitely wasn’t before.
I guess that was part of the last Media Server Update, the release notes said sth about tag support “improvement”. So how do I get support for this tag back? Do I have to use another field?
To further clarify: I am using ALBUMSORT Tag to numberize episodes of audiobooks to not have the Episode Number visible. This used to work perfectly fine but all of a sudden (and i THINK since last update) this tag is not recognised anymore at all. Neither with new files nor when updating metadata on previously imported files. On the latter it changes the albumsort field back to default (=Album Name). This is driving me crazy.
If you explain what you expect to see vs what you’re actually seeing in the web client that would be useful.
A sample file would also be useful.
This is about audio content. mp3, m4a and flac. I am setting Tags with mp3Tag. I am writing in the Tag field ALBUMSORT. I expect to see this tag being recognized in Plex when clicking on the little pen in the lower left in the second field “Album Sort”. It used to work perfectly fine like this. It did work 100% with mp3 and flac, I didn’t test m4a before so not sure about that. But still:
I didn’t change anything in my workflow and as I wrote: even previously working files don’t do anymore when refreshing metadata. Will provide a screenshot later. Not sure if it is ok to upload a sample file as it would be copyrighted material though.
oh, should have clicked the link. Will also provide a sample
testfile.zip (94.6 KB)
So here is a sample @drzoidberg33 I also zipped it into the same folder structure I would use in my library.
Expected Behavior:
Artist: “This is the Artist”
Album: “This is the Album Title”
Sort Album (I don’t know the exact english name as I am using german version but it should be clear): “Folge 001: This is the Album Title”
Actual behaviour:
Artist: “This is the Artist”
Album: “This is the Album Title”
Sort Album: “This is the Album Title”
Please see Screenshots from Plex and mp3Tag for clarification. My best guess is, that Plex stopped recognizing this Tag field and relies on another one now. The big question now is: which one?
Another thing: I think there really shouldn’t be month and day in the release year. I only filled Year (2022). Plex just adds -01-01 behind it by itself. But that is not much of my concern.
Settings: Scanner and Agent are both set to “Plex Music”. “Prefer local Metadata” is active.
@janoskk could this have something to do with the recent Update as announced here?
Ah thanks, I think I know what the problem is.
I’ll take a look, thank you for the sample.
Sounds promising. Any Idea yet?
Yep, fixed it already. It will be in a future server release (I can’t tell you exactly when it will release though).
Awesome, thank you! Is there an Issue number that I can spot it in a future announcement so I can continue with my collection?
Sooo… I don’t want to be pushy but it has been almost a month now. Do you have any Idea when this fix is going to be implemented?
Oooh! Just saw it in beta release notes! Super exciting, will test this tonight. Big thanks!
Works like a charm, thank you very, very much!
Thanks for the quick update to this, drzoidberg33.
I don’t want to seem ungrateful, but it doesn’t seem to be working for mp4 files, just mp3 and flac.
I tried an experiment where I re-tagged the album name and the sort album name. Plex found the changed album name but not the sort.
Can anyone else see if this is the case? Thanks!
True. Same for me. I just convert from mp4/m4a to flac tbh.
Thanks for putting the fix for the mp4 reading into 1.28.2.6093 Drzoidberg33 and Plex team!
Sure, let me know if it solves all the tag issues you were seeing.
