Flagging Posts that are Inappropriate, Off-Topic, or Spam

The Plex community includes users from all corners of the globe and spans many cultures and languages, so it’s a good idea to ensure we’re all approaching things the same way here. Please have a look at our Forum Guidelines, if you haven’t already.

All members of the community can contribute to keeping the forums clean, appropriate, and on-topic through a comprehensive flagging system. When a topic or post is seen that does not belong, users and moderators can flag it for review.

Flagging posts

Flagging is intended to dissuade bad behavior and spam, as well as to promote civilised discourse. If you want to raise an issue about a post without derailing the topic at hand, the best course of action is usually to flag it. All members of the community have the ability to flag any post.

To flag post, click on the show more icon at the bottom right of any post to reveal additional actions. Then click the flag.

There are several options available for flagging content as inappropriate:

  • Send the user a message : This allows for private discussion between two parties, without causing a flag. Sometimes more clarity is needed, or just a nudge could suffice.
  • Mark as Off-Topic : Adds the post to the moderators’ flag queue for review with the reason: Off-Topic. A moderator may decide to split the topic or otherwise move the off-topic posts.
  • Mark as Inappropriate : Adds the post to the moderators’ flag queue for review with the reason: Inappropriate. Moderators’ will review and take appropriate action, as they see necessary.
  • Mark as Spam : Adds the post to the moderators’ flag queue for review with the reason: Spam. While our forum employs several anti-spam measures, its possible some might sneak through. These typically are obvious and are dealt with rather quickly by moderators.
  • Mark as Something Else : Prompts you to provide a message to explain the reason for the flag and adds the post to the moderators’ flag queue for review with the reason: Something Else.

Once a message is flagged, a notice is shown in the post. This message is only viewable by the user who flagged the post. Click Undo flag to reverse the flag.
