Fixed! As I posted in my edit - I wanted to remove some info from the video that I didn’t want public.

Great demo of some amazing capability!

I agree, shorter responses for pause/resume would be great. “OK”
FYI: Video shows 36:06 long but it only goes until about 6:15

Just a personal taste but “Me-di-a I-O” doesn’t roll off the tongue.

I agree…Since it is now called Phlex, maybe just " OK Google, Ask PhlexI " PhlexI = Phlex Intergration

But man i cant wait to try this out

IS “I O” taken? Drop the media?

Dude, this looks so damn dope.

Watching that, I’m excited to try it out myself.

I actually kinda like Media IO, but I can see the wife struggling with it.

That said, there haven’t been many better ideas so far.

Do you have to leave it as whatever you submitted it to Google with? So, is Media IO going to be the final name now?

Amazing work dude. Just phenomenal.

Media IO is definately too long. IMO it really needs to be one syllable to keep it short enough to be catchy. Possible to get rid of the “Sure here’s IO”? Would be a lot more seamless without that.

I’ve been racking my brain (waiting for DH to say whether it can be changed, though) to try and think of shorter ones that hopefully wouldn’t be trademarked, less syllables, and still meets the two word requirement:
Hey Goooogle,

  • ask “Film Buff” (2 syl)
  • ask “Magic Box” (3 syl)
  • ask “Reel Time” (2 syl)

This has become a thing around my house… wife and I will randomly blurt out ideas.

No, “Media IO” is not set in stone. It will probably be the trigger word for the first go-around if I get Google’s approval, simply so I can get it out the door. But I am absolutely open to changing it to something more palatable.

“Eye oh” might be doable, but I could also see Google’s detection yelling at me about it, apparently, you can’t even use the word “my” in the trigger name.

“Film Buff” and “Reel Time” aren’t too bad. Neither is Magic Box, but I could see somebody making a reference to lady parts with that one.

In other news, now working on “Okay Google, ask Media IO to change player” and server. Got all the voice parsing and logic bits done already - when you ask it to change/switch/pick a new player/server, it’ll fetch a device list, and ask which of the possible choices you want to use. You say that device name, it’ll change the Phlex variables accordingly.

God, I wish. Unfortunately, their “direct actions” stuff is not generally open to the public yet…my guess is that’s only available to the big-name companies and partners, or something to that effect. You can kind of skirt this by using IFTTT, especially for the “control” commands where there isn’t much need for a custom response. But for the playback stuff, no, it has to say “Sure, here’s …” every time.

Really, what we need is some kind of petition to get Plex to adopt this as the official conversation action, then it could just be “Ask Plex to”…

I’d sign that petition.

I think Reel Time is pretty cool.

What about “Media Boss” or “Video Boss”?

Or alternatively “Vid Boss”, but vid doesn’t sound very natural to say. Kinda.

“Vid Boss” is pretty short and covers films and shows.

WellP, just got the email this iteration was not approved. Looks like they had issues setting up the account linking. I did some work a day or two ago to improve security on both sides of the connection, I’m wondering if they just happened to try linking at the same time I was trying it or something.

So, while this is an unfortunate delay, it will also provide me the opportunity to change the app name before resubmitting. I’m going to try some fun combinations of words that sound like phlex, see if I can’t get that to work first. Still taking other suggestions if anybody else thought of anything new.

Phlex IO (eye oh if needed), Phlex Boss, Master Phlex, Phlex Master, Mr. Phlex (Mister/Miss Phlex). Just a few ideas.

Bummer it wasn’t approved but hopefully the second try will be the charm (with a new name too boot)

I think “media” should be in the name. I wasn’t loving “I/O” but would “Media Phlex/Flex” be OK?
Or perhaps…
Media Flex
Mediagram

I’m actually gonna see if I can get away with iPhlex. You can specify a display name and a phoenetic name, and at least in the project, it doesn’t seem to yell at me in using that. So perhaps a win/win there. If not, then Tele Phlex would be my next one to try.

Please no iPhlex. My Android heart would die a little each time I said it…

I still say CinePlex!

I don’t think we can have the word Plex in that because the Plex people would want that for future use.

Er sorry. I mean CinePhlex

Fair enough! I’m an android dev as well, so it was a painful concession. It was just short and had the name in it and seemed to be allowable.

I’ve submitted again, working name of “cinePhlex”.

Could something like Aphlexa work ??? Phlex+Alexa

Pretty simple, but what about PhlexTV or FlexCast?

Can’t wait for this to become available, it’s everything I want from my Google Home! Keep up the great work digitalhigh.
