Flinging content to a remote friend

I would love to be able to fling/cast music/video to my parent’s Apple TV. They are 80+ old and get quickly confused navigating Plex themselves.

Their Plex account is a “friend” to my server, but they are physically remote from me (not on my home network).

Does anyone know if there any way to do this (eg: using something like Tailscale to get the remote device - in my case, an AppleTV - to appear locally on my network) but just for the Plex app?

Create a smart collection, which e.g. uses a sharing label to filter items.
Publish this collection to the home page, just for them.
Then add a sharing label to the item you want them to see.
When they look at the Home page next time they’ll see it – front and center.

Great idea!

I currently have them restricted to a subset of films and shows so they don’t get overwhelmed with things I know they are not interested in.

How do I do this bit? …would it be published just for them (their Plex account/AppleTV) or for all users?

edit: I assume the smart collection is also from their account (i.e. I would not see it)?

in principle it works like this: https://support.plex.tv/articles/publishing-collections/
Other shared users would also see the collection and/or its contents – if they have access permission to that content, that is.

Collections can only be created by the server owner.
If these are smart collections, you can select in their properties whether they shall be using the “watched” state of the server owner or the shared user.

Got it although I may end up annoying the rest of my family.

Got it - thanks.
