Folder Display

Plexers, I create a TV show on the server called Stargate SG1 and then add the 10 seasons. Go to the Plex Media player on the LG TV and under Recentlt added TV I see the folder Stargate SG 1 with the 10 season inside it. Perfect. But it also shows a couple of seasons out on their own and not inside the main folder. This is happening for TV shows that have multiple seasons.
So I see Stargate SG 1. 10 seasons, but also see Stargate SG 1 season 5 and Stargate SG 1 season 9 beside the main folder. This is happening to a few of the shows I have plus it also shows some individual episodes on the own
Can I make it so it only shows the main parent folder
Thanks

not sure what this means. in the recently added row? can you take a screenshot of whatever you are looking at

Can you also show a screenshot of how you are adding your shows in Plex?
Do you have a single folder containing all you shows and Plex pointing to that folder rather than individual shows?

It’s probably the way that “Recently Added TV” works. It can be almost useless for people like me that don’t add a lot of episodes or tv show to the server.

To see it happen, add 4 episodes all from different season of the same show. Plex will show that new series in Recently Added as the TV show title, and beneath it state “4 Seasons” The next day, add multiple episodes, but only from season 3. It will now show the previous poster with 4 seasons, and a new poster with only season 3. The following day, add only 1 episode from season 5, and you’ll get a new poster that is specifically the episode from season 5.

If you are only adding, from the OP, Stargate SG1 episodes over a few days, your Recently Added TV fills up with only one show, with multiple posters, and the TV shows you added last week are basically lost, or you need to scroll or navigate to find them.

Recently Added TV works great if you are regularly adding episodes from multiple shows. If you are only adding from a few TV series, you basically skip over the Recently Added section or disable it, cause it’s all the same thing.

There should be a way or option to combine the episodes down to a single item, so that Recently Added TV becomes a little more functional for people that are not adding lots of content.

Here’s a screen shot of the Recently Added TV for the library I have set up for my grandlkids. Not a lot of content is added on a regular basis.

If I hit the scroll button once, I get this:

he keeps saying “folders” which has me confused and was not sure if the Recently Added hub is what he was referring to or folder view in a library. I have seen with MP4s that have different embedded metadata they end up separated. Like even though the show files are named correctly if the embedded metadata for show Title on some episodes files is different and local media assets is taking precedence they can end up separated.

The recently added tv hub should combine episodes into a season when then are added within 20hours for folks who rip disks and add a bunch of episodes at once. I believe it was intended that for shows with daily episodes like nightly news one might be recording via DVR it was preferred not to be combined that is why it is not 25hrs.

Ok I have my shows load in Windows 10 in folders, for example
Stargate SG1
……………………… Season 1
………………………………………… Stargate SG1 s01 e01
………………………………………… Stargate SG1 s01 e02
……………………… Season 2
………………………………………… Stargate SG1 s02 e01
………………………………………… Stargate SG1 s02 e02

So in windows I have Stargate SG1 as a folder, then each season is a seperate folder inside Stargate SG1 and the episodes are inside the individual season folders.

So when I load them to Plex server I just add a TV show and rename it Stargate SG1 then add each season folder.

Now on the Plex player this is what I see

Add images

So you can see I have the 10 season inside Stargate SG1 but you can also see a couple of seasons out on their own you can also see a few Stargate Atlantis episodes out on their own

what view/sort are those last two images in (can’t see top of page) . I am assuming you see the same thing in the web app in browser.

When you created your TV library you only added the one folder that all your TV is in correct?

TV <----------- main folder like this. (using the root drive letter is not recommended)
…Stargate SG1 <---dont add each individual show folder
………………………… Season 1
…………………………………………… Stargate SG1 - s01e01
…………………………………………… Stargate SG1 - s01e02
………………………… Season 2
…………………………………………… Stargate SG1 - s02e01
…………………………………………… Stargate SG1 - s02e02

In my computer drive I have seperate folders for each TV show.
So in Plex I add library, select TV SHows, change the name to what tV show I’m adding, Stargate SG1 for example then add folders, then add each season one at a time. Then I repeat the process for each TV show
You said don’t add each individual show folder, how are you meant to load them into the server if I don’t do it like that

So I don’t have TV Shows as such in Plex Server but each TV Show loaded as a TV Show but renamed to the actual show name.

That’s what I see in the Web server, the 10 seasons for Stargate SG1 inside the main folder but also see Season 4 and 1 beside it.

This is what I see for Stargate Atlantis, the main folder but also see a couple of seasons and then some episodes outside the main show folder

Your main mistake here is that you have created separate libraries for each show.
That’s not how it works in Plex.
You create one library and put all shows into it. As explained by @BigWheel above, the folder structure is very important and it is also very important which of the folders is actually added to the library.

It seems no matter how desperately you try to explain why the ‘intended’ behavior is ‘stoopit’ - all you get in return is that it’s the (stoopit) ‘intended’ behavior.

Every user on the planet can clearly see there’s an issue.
Unfortunately, Plex isn’t worried too much about user opinion.

Even if you have your created the libraries properly as stated, you will get the mish-mash of posters on Recently Added TV.

I have two TV libraries. One specifically for for the grandkids, the other for everything else.New content is added in batches every 2-4 days. The screenshot below shows new items I have added to the two TV libraries over the last week. As you can see, the new stuff is repeated, with posters for a season or an episode, depending on the number of episodes added to a TV show at one time, and when they were added.

From the screenshot, the first two items were added about an hour ago, the next three, two days ago, and the remainder sometime in the last week. So I have

  • two “Titans” displayed as separate episodes
  • two “Creepshow” displayed as separate episodes
  • One “Batwoman” as a season with multiple episodes added at same time
  • two “Flash” items, one as an episode, one as a season (multiple episodes added at one time)
  • one “Watchmen” item (two episodes added at same time
  • a single episode of “Teen Titans Go!”
  • a season of “The Affair” (3 episodes of the same season added)

There’s room for 10 items on the page, and I should see 10 different TV shows. I only see seven TV shows, However, If I scroll over once, I see this:

clearly 10 different TV shows, again displaying as single episodes or seasons, depending on how the episodes were added.

The multiple poster glitch probably isn’t obvious to people who add a lot of content daily, but obvious to those of us who don’t. I actually take note of what is displayed on the home screen before I add content, so that I don’t end up with two posters of the same show side by side.

Combining all of the seasons and episodes of one TV show to one item makes sense to me. I have “On Deck” which takes me directly to the last un-watched episode of any of the items in Recently Added, no matter how many posters are displayed there for that show.

Recently Added TV

The shows are added in order to show what the latest show that was added.
in your example Titans S2-E7 was added and then sometime later Titans S2-E8 was added and it scrolls the shows as they are added.
It’s helpful if your loading shows as they air. If one is missing then you know it.
